lost a kidney, dvt, many surgeries, septic from port, i've been out now for a couple of yrs and have put on alot of wt. When I try to exercise or walk very far, I break out in hives over my whole body-it feels like I'm covered with fire ants bitting. Very intence and very miserable! It goes away after about 20-30 min. Has anyone ever experienced this? My doctors are baffled and don't know what to do!

My very young son has cholinergic hives. These are hives caused by an increase in body temperature. If he cries too hard, takes a bath that is too warm or plays hard outside on a warm day he will break out in hives. His allergist prescribed Atarax to treat them. Have you ever tried Benadryl to see if it helps? Try an internet search for cholinergic hives or cholinergic urticaria. I hope you get it all figured out!

My son has this same problem and so did my father. The hives are coming from your own sweat. Some people are allergic to their own sweat. Take a antihistamine like benadryl. That will help. It took alot of specialists to find this out. Has to do with the functions or non functioning of the kidneys. My father was seen by specialists from around the world. He has a kidney disease that is nicknamed Belk's Disease. It is in the World Medical Books. Have your doctors look it up. I think that they have found a long medical term for it now. If they want more info on that type of kidney disease, have them contact doctor Jack Bryan in Peoria, Illinois. He has all the info from my father and was his main doctor. My father was seen by top medical doctors from all over the world all the time in Texas and Chicago at all these conventions all the time back in the 70's and 80's. He is also one of the first people to receive the Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. Or, for short, home dialysis for kidney disease. Mainly, there is a major organ dysfunction and you need to atleast direct the doctors in the right direction. Not all doctors are familiar with these things. If you have any other questions, contact me. My email is available under my name when you click on my name.

Don't give up on exercise just yet. Try out water walking. Walking in water for 20 minutes can give you the same benefit as walking for an hour. You have been through so much - I wonder if you have developed an allergy to something - a medication or maybe you could be breaking out in hives due to stress. My daughter gets hives when I scold her. :)
