oat meal is best. cream of wheat can be eaten occasionally, but it is converted to glucose almost instantly because it lacks fiber. cold cereals, high in fiber, with even a little sugar, is okay such as cheerios, frosted mini wheats, organic granola, great grains. you should include a piece of fruit such as a banana or an orange with your breakfast as well. work with a nutritionist to help you if you are not sure. they are great to work with when establishing a meal plan.

I'm 90% sure that its good for you. The thing you must watch is the sugar content in the cream of wheat and oatmeal. Just plain oatmeal and cream of wheat is fine. What you have to look out for is the type that has add-ins like cinnamon flavored, or apple flavor, or raisin bread flavor etc. That usually means there's more sugar added.
You could also turn the box on the side of the label on the bottom and is should say something about American Diabetes Association approved.

Try plain oatmeal with 0-1 g of sugar and mix in some sugar free Log Cabin syrup (and cinnamon if you want). I love the stuff.

Or how about (I'm not sure about this one being okay for you) some Naturally Preferred Organic Healthy O's cereal. 1 g of fat for 3/4 cup, 22g of carbs but only 5 g is sugar and 3 g of fiber and 3 g of protein.

oatmeal is OK, but cream of wheat has a TON of sugar in it, especially the flavored stuff. Try cheerios, or special K for cold cereal, and look at the back of the box to see what has the least amount of sugar in it. My mom eats a banana every morning for the potassium. you should also consult either a nutritionist, or your doctor for some more suggestions.

Check out this web site

http://www.fabulousfoods.com/features/diabetic/brkfst.html

They have a "recipes" tab, that offers hundreds of ideas, not only for breakfast, but snacks, lunch, and dinner as well.

The site has been very usefull over the last year that I've been diagnosed with diabetes.

I eat both quite often. But this really depends on the diet retrictions your doctor has you on. Most controlled diabetic can have carbs through out the day, but in limited amounts. For my limits, a bowl of cereal, hot or cold) usually taps me out for the morning. I use splenda to sweeten.
Call your doctor and see what he/she says!

You need to learn to count carbohydrates and avoid them as much as possible. It would be nice to know if you are on medication and which one if you are.

A cereal hight in fiber is good...at least 5 grams per serving. And if you need to sweeten it, use Splenda.
