Yesterday I was practising holding my breath for a long time and with a lot of air to augment my breathing capacity, and now they hurt. Is this dangerous, how long will they hurt, should I go to a doctor. I'll apreciate the help and give points.

its normal that it hurts, its just like exercising any other muscle and being sore from it....try shorter breathing exercises before and after for a warm up and cool down

Well, if your lungs hurt from after holding your breath if must be dangerous....you shouldn't really need to go to a doctory, but you shouldn't hold your breath that long again....take in deep breaths...most likely you deprived your lungs of air....just keep taking deep breaths until they get better.

Lungs are muscles. Like all muscles, they'll hurt when they've been over-exerted.

Give them a rest. Breathe normally, try to avoid getting your heart pounding, and try breathing in aromatic oils that will clear your sinus passages and make oxygen flow in more freely (peppermint, anise, eucalyptus, rosemary, etc.). Also, keep hydrated...drink some green tea or luke-warm water.

maybe some of the air was pressured out to your pleural sacs. our lungs actually have "valves" that sometimes when a lung is overinflated, the air escapes to the pleural cavity. does that answer your question? the only way to find out is to get a chest xray

what are you practicing holding your breath for? it's not necessary.

To start off I think it is apsolutely STUPID for you to be smokin at that age! Please stop... It can only cause bad things.I am not tryig to be mean but it's very true. You need to go to the doctor and get a check up. Do your parents know you are smoking? Please tellthem if not, this s an issue of your health. But, it could also be heArtburn? This is just a possibility. If it could be there are tablets you can buy from your chemist. PLEASE look into it more and vist a doctor straight away!!! Your Heath is at risk. Do something asap!! Please for your own sake. Goodluck

holding ur breath for a long period of time takes practice and teaching ur longs to hold the air in but if it ur first time doing it and u did not work up to that point then i would have to say that u will hurt for a ltl while but next time try smaller amounts and work ur way up.

The pain indicates that you are not in fit health.

Breathing excercises are to be done gently, and regularly, each week increasing the number of breaths, and duration of holding your breath.

Nice to hear you trying it. In yoga it is called PRAYANAMA.
It increases oxygen in the body, reduces chances of heart ailments.

you have muscle spasms just like weight lifters get from straining muscles, just relax and breathe normal, you just over did it! try to increase capacity a little slower next time!
