I bought peaches, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, oranges, and pears. Is there anything I can do to prevent some fruit from turning brown? Also, can you discuss presentation?

Get a watermelon and cut it open sideways. Scoop out the meat and cut the sides decoratively (a zig-zag or wave design is pretty easy). Then fill the "watermelon bowl" with the rest of the watermelon and cut fruit you have. Sprinkle lemon juice on top of the fruit to prevent browning. If you would like, you can even take a decorative bowl and put some yogurt or whipped cream in it and place it in the middle of your display.

As it has been said before me just a little lemon juice will prevent browning. The kabob idea is nice. For a quick dip just mix a jar of Marshmallow cream and a 8 oz block of cream cheese. You could use the bananas and dip and present them with fruit banana splits.Don't forget the nuts and chocolate sauce.Or you could serve the fruit up in champagne or wine glasses with some Grand Mariner (orange liquor)on top.Enjoy and good luck!!

Dip the fruit in a citrus juice to prevent browning.

For a lovely and easy preparation buy some wooden sticks such as used for kabobs on the grill. Thread the fruit on the sticks and poke into a head of cabbage. Easy for your guests to pick and eat. No time to get the kabob sticks? Make smaller versions on toothpicks and either stick into something long like a squash with bottom cut so it doesn't roll or just place on round platter around the edges like a spoke - working inward. Have a bowl of dip in the center of the platter.

Another pretty trick is after you have rolled the "kabob" in the citrus juice of choice roll in sugar and let dry a little for sparkly effect. If you have the kind of sugar they use on the edge of glasses for drink it is even prettier.

Easy fruit dip ideas:
Whipped cream with a little vanilla mixed in.
Whipped cream cheese thinned with milk and some brown sugar mixed in.
Blend cottage cheese in blender with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger until smooth.

Try one or all.

Have a great party!

Use lemon juice to prevent browning on fruit...this presentation will speak for itself...

THE HEART BASKET:
Almost any shape watermelon will work for this project.
Cut a thin slice from the bottom to provide a stable base.
Draw the outlines for the Heart Basket as shown in the pattern image.
Use a knife or decorating tool to cut out the edges. Be careful not to cut through the handle.
When cutting is complete, carefully remove the top quarter sections. Trim the flesh from the inside of the handle.
You can cut out hearts or other designs from the rind you removed to decorate the outside of the basket; attach with toothpicks.
Fill with approx. 8-12 cups of fruit salad.

You can use a large platter and pile the fruit all around it.

I always make this fruit dip and everyone loves it!

16 oz container of cool whip
2-small pks instant vanilla pudding
1/2 cup of milk

mix the milk w/ the pudding and then mix it w/the cool whip. Let it sit in the fridge for about 2 hours.

It's addicting and you actually would like to eat it plain after awhile :-)

I would suggest getting a watermelon and making a fruit bowl. Don't cut it way in advance... but lemon juice will keep it looking fresh for a while (4-5 hours). Keep it cold! Here's a picture and recipe (but you can use any fruit).
Enjoy!

cut a watermelon in half. remove the edible part. leave a little around the shell. do not cut through the rind. place your assorted fruits in the watermelon and include the edible watermelon pieces (remove the seeds first). cover with saran wrap and chill. do this 3-4 hours before placing on your table.
