She had it treated and she hasn't had an outbreak from 15 years. thats a looong time from an STD to stay in remission. Wear a Condom when you decide to have sex, but I'm sure it she's been treated it'll all be right as rain.

You can NEVER get rid of Genital Warts you can only get rid of the warts but the virus will never leave your body. So even though you don't see them on her that doesn't mean she doesn't have them. If you really like her don't let this get in the way of that just be very sure you use protection. And as far as her telling you she is cured she just may have got confused with what the doctor told her 15 years ago. I'm sure she would not have lied to you if she knew you could figure out the answer by just asking around. I guess this will be a shock to her too.

Sorry, but yes. You can still contract it. Genital warts are also known as HPV. Like with any other virus, there is no cure yet although there are treatment options available such as freezing the warts during an outbreak. Even if your gf never had an outbreak, the virus still remains under the skin making her a carrier for life. She is also at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer and should have a pap smear performed every six months. If you really like her and decide to have sex, make sure to wear a condemn as you probably already know. But remember, even condemns are not 100 percent guaranteed but close. I know, that sucks. Also remember that if she is into anal sex, you can contract the virus just as easily with that route, because the virus lays dormant in that area as well as in and around the vagina and cervix. Hope this information helps. from, Jill, registered nurse.(R.N.)

1, There is no CURE for genital warts.
2, They can be passed on for the rest of the persons life.
3, You do not need to see any warts for them to be contagious.
4, The use of condoms provides NO protection against this type of infection.
5, Look up some photos on Google.
6, I am sorry for both of you. Getting gential warts is such a terrible thing .

If she had warts 15 years ago, she still has the virus now (its a virus, so it never goes away). So, yes you can still catch it, even if you use a condom (because its passed on through direct contact and your genital areas will still touch, and you will still come in contact with her bodily fluids). She may have had the warts removed and they haven't come back, but she still has the virus in her body. Nothing cures genital warts. You can only treat the symptoms.

Genital warts are caused by the Human Papaloma Virus (HPV), not to be confused with HIV.
This virus has many strains, some which cause cervical cancer in women.
While she may have had the warts treated, the virus remains in your system, even if you have no symptoms.
Please encourage your partner to be rechecked as she could have internal lesions that are cancerous.
Thank her for being honest, and proceed with much caution, and protection.

Yes you can get it from her, and you should both be tested. You could have the virus just like she does and not even know about it. Learn about medications like Valtrex and acyclovir and ask your DR to give you some to have on hand. This girl was honest with you. What if the next girl doesn't tell you? OR doesn't even know! If this scares you, you might want to close the curtains and never leave the house again.

I would suggest that the person you should really be asking this question is a doc. or nurse. Being that you came here, I can do my best and try and leave something useful. I do volunteer work, that helps teens and adults with std's and they have so many resources on places to call .The hot-line provide anonymous, confidential information on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and how to prevent them. Also, provides referrals to clinical and other services.

Just dont have sex with her if shes having an "outbreak" that means when the warts are visible.. and use a condom. You wont get them. Just be verryy careful. If she got them treated and they dont pop up anymore there is no harm.

I think once you have had the HPV you an be a carrier for life. I would continue with caution and always use a condom. She did the honorable thing by telling you, that took courage.
