It really does depend on the person and it depends on what outbreak you are talking about.
The initial outbreak or the first one usually lasts the longest. Mine lasted about 2 weeks.
The reoccurring outbreaks are usually a lot shorter. Mine usually clear up in 5-7 days. Also, the longer you have herpes the less outbreaks you will get. The last outbreak I had was over a year and a half ago!

I got diagnosed with genital herpes (type 2) about 5 years back, whilst I was still in college and had a dumb one-night stand. I realize a lot of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl that has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/AwCUL everything changed.
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just last week, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This program provided the chance to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others by sharing this story.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

My first outbreak lasted about 2 weeks and I felt like i was dying! And the above answer is not true about the longer you have it the fewer outbreaks, I have had Herpes for 10 years now and I get them once a month, but then again it has alot to do with diet and stress, and my outbreaks last about one week.

IMMUNIZATION PREVENTS ANYTHING FROM "REPLICATING" IN YOR SYSTEM..
THEREFORE,
"HERPES, A THOUSAND YEAR OLD ANNOYANCE , CURRENTLY NOT A PROBLEM IN AN IMMUNIZED POPULATION..
IF..VARIED PERSON TO PERSON.
PEOPLE WITH EXCELLENT IMMUNITY DIDN'T EXPERIENCE ANY DISCOMFORT..
WEAKLINGS COMPLAINED OF FREQUENT WEEKLY OR MONTHLY "OUTBREAKS" TODAY IMMUNIZATION PREVENT THOSE DISCOMFORT
