my brother is getting married on saturday and at the reception they are having a buffet style of setting to get your food but there isn't a main dish that i can have. would me taking extra beans and the side dishes that don't contain meat and things i can't eat be wrong for me?

No, you can't expect to be able to please everyone, you do what you gotta do. You have to eat too either you eat just sides or not. You could also put just a little of what you don't want on your plate and just throw it out when your done if you are worried about what others will think.

Typically when you accept for a wedding, you specify the type of food you want. If you didn't or they didn't give the option, then it's best to simply write it on the response card.

You've kind of waited until the last minute, so it may be hard for them to set something up for you now. If you know where the reception is, try calling them tomorrow and asking them to allow for a vegetarian meal separate from the buffet. Most places would be happy to oblige. If the wedding is being catered from an outside source (like caterers are bringing in food from another location), try to find out who the caterer is and call them. If it doesn't work out, then eat before you go and stick with salad and sides. It's not tacky to not take the meat - I actually find it tacky not to provide any other options for those who don't want the meat. Have Fun!! : )

Caterers plan on a few more people than actually are invited at the event, as it is better to have a bit more food left over than run out too soon, and some people take bigger portions than others. You will be fine taking extra amounts of the foods you can eat. There will be plenty of people going back up for seconds, that is assumed at a buffet. Just don't heap it up and then not even eat it.
congrats to your brother and his fiancee, and have a blast at the reception!

I find it odd that your brother didn't at least include 1 suitable main dish. I could understand if you were just a random guest, but he should have thought about his sister. That being said, as the reception is a buffet you should feel free to take as much of whatever you find suitable. I find it commendable that you are understanding and considerate of the situation. Enjoy the day!

taking your own food would be a little tacky. you know the saying majority rules...well this is a case where that applies. since there is a buffet i figure there will be something there you can eat (veggies/fruit) to at least hold you over until you can grab a real meal. i guess the cake is out for ya' as well then. sorry, about that. the reception probably won't be that long...just try to have fun!

In a buffet setting you have more options. Go through line and get what you can eat, then discretely add the dishes you brought for yourself. As long as you don't make a huge deal of it, people should be accepting of your decision not to eat meat, and if they're not, remind them that you're not making them eat it.

Most wedding meals are planned for a certain number of people. It would probably be best for all if you ate a little something before going to the wedding so you do not need quite so much at the reception.

Eat the beans. And Im sure there will be a salad bar for you. Just get all the side dishes you know you can have. No one will think you're weird.

If you can't eat the main dish, then eat whatever else you can. I've been to weddings where I've eaten bread and green salad. You can eat before you go, that would be the best option.
