Yes! You can have herpes for years before finally having an outbreak. This best way to find out about this is to go to the doctor when the outbreak is apparent because you can only get samples from the actual blister there is no blood test to determine this because chicken pox and the shingles also are a form of herpes, and this may cause a false positive. The doctor can also examine the blister and be able to tell what type they are.

Yes you can have herpes for quite awhile before your first outbreak. If you have herpes you are invariably going to have outbreaks, but stress is a major factor in their onset. So the less stressed you are the less outbreaks you will have. If you think you might have herpes you should get tested as soon as you can.

Yes, unfortunately...the virus lays dormant until an outbreak..that is why it is so important to use protection because you can be exposed to the virus and not see a outbreak of blisters..often people will have Herpes II and not be aware of exposure until their initial outbreak..and if they are very active and not using protection they may not know where they got the disease..

It is possible. Generally, though sores may appear four to seven days after a person is first infected. Flu-like symptoms, including fever and swollen lymph glands in the groin, may also follow the initial infection. Herpes sores are usually worst the first time they appear. In later outbreaks the sores tend to be less painful and last for a shorter period of time.

Yes, you can. Herpes virus never leave your system. It is just suppressed by your immune system or medicines and there is always a risk of transmitting it to others.
