When eating corn on the cob, my husband sometimes gnaws his way through the cob. I tell him it isn't safe, but, he only says, "It ain't hurt me yet". So I wondered, is it safe to eat a corn cob? Is the cob digestible? Any nutrients?

There is nothing wrong with eating the cob. The only issue is that it is high fiber and will simply pass through the digestive system with little or no break-down. Safety-wise...no concern.

I would have to say no. We don't actually digest corn let alone the cob. We can all see it come out! Sorry that's gross.
Cows can't digest corn either. They are injected with drugs to keep them from stomach upset. Everyone should think twice about eating corn fed beef. It's not a good thing like the beef council advertises. It is a cheap and plentiful feed. It's too expensive to let them graze on grass as nature intended.

I don't see why it's not safe to eat a corn cob. As your husband has said it hasn't hurt him yet. Corn isn't digestible so i don't think the cob would be. And I would think the cob would have some of the same nutrients the corn has.

No. Corn cobs are the cause of MANY intestinal obstuctions, requiring thousands of dollars in surgery to treat. Best you keep those pesky cobs where the dog cannot get access to them.

I have never hear of anyone eating the cob orf the corn. The question might be better answered by a nutritionist or by your doctor.

Wow! Talk about getting some roughage in ones diet. I don't think it would hurt him going in but coming out might be a different story.

No, not for people- if you mean the actual cobb, rather than the corn. But you can stir paint with it.
