I am a vegetarian. The reasons that I do it are:
-Many cattle, pig, chicken, etc. farms are incredibly cruel to the animals that they keep. I suggest doing some research on this point- you will probably be horrified by what you find out.
-Health reasons. Red meat in particular is very bad for you- it has a really high fat content. Also, meats in the US are FULL of hormones and antibiotics. There are theories (with lots of evidence supporting them) that part of the reason why there are so many strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria these days is because of the use of antibiotics in meat.
-It's a good cause. Being a vegetarian is a great way to help the environment and fight against world hunger. It takes so much more land and grain to make a hamburger than it does to make a salad. If everyone ate a diet lower in meat, there would not be as much environmental degredation or hunger.

I think first you must know the process of meat and then the benefits of not eating it. Then we shall go towards how living a vegan life style can flourish you on all levels. Now lets start with animal meat (carnivores). Lets take the pig for example. First they feed it lots of garbage then they inject these pigs so that it can develop faster for the butcher. Next, the pig is hung upside down by its hoofs on a iron hook, like the on in the movie "Texas Chain Saw Mascare" the scene where leather face hangs a girl on her back. Anyway the pig is screaming so the butcher takes a big sword like knife and slashes the pig throat until it is drained of blood and of coures til it's dead. Later the pig is tossed over this large iron in circles with fire, to burn off the hair. Now the butcher is ready to butch the pig. Now just think this happens to many animals, its probably not the same process but it is wrong and insane. Now remember this every time you eat a burger, ham, chicken, lamb, etc... Not only it's wrong but the way the food is cooked plays a major role to your health. People suffer from high cholestrol, some develop cancers, obesity, highblood preassure, etc... And its all in preparation. Now vegan food is high in esential vitamins i.e. (A, E, K, D, C), antiooxidants etc.. It creats a much more well balance for you body recognition. Your skin begin to look better, hair, etc.. There are many substitues out there such as "Morning Star" "Boca" "GardenBurger" etc.. The creators know that the mind hasn't forgotten how bar-b-Q taste so the made a replica out of soy products and it taste great. It's low in fat, cholesterol, and has for grams of protein which the body needs. See you don't need meat. Why put dead things in your body when you replace it with living well prepared foods that doesn't have bones. Just think about it next time you're at a restaurant

1. Meats contain saturated fat which leads to high cholesterol, heart disease and obesity, (not to say there aren't fat vegetarians) just to name a few. Beef cattle are usually fed things other than just grain, including ground up beef, chicken or other animals. Same thing goes for chickens and other animals raised for meat. As a vegetarian, your risk of getting diabetes is 53% lower if you are male and 55% lower if you are female.
2. A plant based diet can provide all essential nutrients required for humans in abundant quantities. There is no need to worry about lack of calcium (spinach, kale and other green leafy vegetables are LOADED with it) or protein (beans, legumes and gluten will get you all you need)
3. A Plant based diet is good for world hunger. 70% of all grain grown in the United States goes to feed animals raised to be slaughtered. If all this grain were put toward feeding people instead of animals raised for slaughter, it is logical to make the connection that world hunger could be drastically decreased.
This is a VERY short summary of why it's a great idea to be vegetarian, even better to be completely plant-based.
If you are really interested look at this site. http://www.vegsoc.org/info/goingveg.html It can answer a lot of commonly asked questions about going vegetarian
Oh, and vegetarian food isn't boring... I always get asked what I eat if I don't eat meat. It's pretty easy. Just the same things meat eaters eat, only without the meat or with a meat substitute. You can always ask for substitutions at restaurants (sometimes they don't have them, but it's worth asking).
I realize you probably have already made up your mind that vegetarians are weird and social misfits, but I challenge you to give it a try anyway. Just don't try it cold turkey (no pun intended). Work your way off meat slowly, one meal at a time.
Hope that helps!

I can find quite a few reasons.
-Healthier
-Live longer
-Meat contains toxins
-We can't digest meat properly
-Easting meat hurts the environment
-We aren't designed to eat meat
-You don't need to eat meat
-Those poor ikkle animals might get hurt!
Oh! Sorry, you said good reasons.
Well then I'm stumped!
None of those reasons are true, several quite the opposite (except the last one, which is true but still not a good reason), but that is the kind of pseudo-scientific, albeit widely spread and believed pseudo-scientific, propaganda you will be exposed to asking questions like that here.
It is also true that meat contains fat. Well spotted, so do we. If you have a healthy lifestyle that is no problem, we need fat, it, like meat, is part of a balanced diet. If you insist on having it so that getting up to go to the fridge is your only source of exercise, then yes, eating lots of meat will make you fat, and give you cholesterol, but even on a veggie diet that wouldn't exactly be healthy.
Think of all the healthiest people you know: sportsmen, athletes, etc. Are any of them Veggie? I doubt it, because meat contains some proteins and minerals that are essential to a strong and healthy body that cannot be got anywhere else, even supplements aren't as good as the real thing.

1. Your health: lower risks of heart disease, some cancer, and other diseases
2. You will no longer be hurting animals. Go to Peta.com and watch the videos of how animals are treated in today's "farms" ... they will sicken you and make you swear never to eat another animal.
3. It's good for the environment ... we use more water to feed the "farmed" animals than for anything else in the US, and the waste from those animals does terrible things to the water and the land.
4. And if we planted soybeans for human consumption rather than feed for animal consumption, world hunger would be reduced.
Just do it! Go Veg! You will be able to look at animals as the beautiful creatures they are, rather than the dead meat they wind up being after having lived a short, miserable life.

Humans were not designed for a diet of eating animals. Compare their physiology: Animals that eat other animals have a very short digestive tract to accommodate a diet of meat, which does not contain fiber and should be expelled from the body rather quickly and not be left to sit in the body for long periods. Humans have the long digestive tract of other non-carnivore type animals, because plant fiber moves much more quickly through the digestive process. That's just the way animals are made, of which we humans are one type.

Dear Reecebyfield,
Canine are present in our buccal cavity for tearing meat of other animals and our digestive system can digest veg as well as non-veg. If God Almighty wanted us to have only veg, why did he give us canine and the digestive system that can digest both? Further more, most people base their arguement against non-vegetarianism upon the principle of killing living things.
They say that killing a living creature is a wrong act. They
fail to realise that even plants have got life. Some people
further say that I agree that they have got life but they can't
feel pain. So I tell them that today, science has got even
more advanced and science tell that plants can even cry,
they can even feel happy. So, your logic has failed. One
person went to the extent saying that plants have got two
or three senses, animals have got 5 senses. Therefore,
killing an animal is a bigger crime. I tell them that suppose,
you have a brother who was born blind and deaf, two
senses less. When he grew up, someone kills him. Will you
tell the judge that please give the murderer less
punishment because my brother had two senses less? The
logic doesn't work that way.
Some people propose that Islam is a ruthless religion. You
slaughter the animals and they feel pain. Its a barbaric
religion. Its nothing but their lack of awareness. In Islamic
method of slaughtering animals, animal dies a PAINLESS
death. The animal contracts and relaxes not due to the
pain, but due to the gush of the flow of blood. In Islamic
method of slaughtering animals, most of the blood flows
out of the body of the animal because we know that blood
is a good medium of germs and bacteria.
Some people put a new logic, they say that science tells us
that whatever we eat has an effect of your behaviour so
eating animals, makes you ferocious. This is the reason
that we, MUSLIMS are allowed only to eat herbivore animals
like cow, goat, sheep etc. These are peacful animals. We
Muslims are peace loving people. We are not allowed to
have lion, tiger, leopard.
If you have any other argument or logic for not having non
-veg, you can contact me at:

No 1. A vegetarian diet is natural to primates ( flexible fingered animals ). Therefore it is healthy.
No 2. Slaughtering animals for their meat is extremely cruel.
No 3. The raising of animals required many more acres of farmland than for the equal food value in vegetables.

I cant believe that people who claim to be a vegetarian think that if they dont eat meat it is going to prevent others who eat meat not to kill animals. Not all veggies are cheaper, I have found it costs me more to buy a Red Bell Pepper $4.99 a lb and I can get a nice thick steak for $2.49lb, Soy Burgers $6.99 Hamburger $1.99lb. I couldnt afford to be a vegetarian.

1) Ethical reasons - innocent animals need not suffer to feed you.
2) Costs - it is cheaper to be a vegetarian and the meals are qucik and easy to prepare.
3) Health benefits - your heart will thank you and you'll be slimmer without all that fatty meat.
I've been veggie since age 11, my kids have been veggie since birth.
