There is some mention of asthma and allergies in the diet books that approach diet by way of reducing insulin production, as insulin production has an effect on the production of a lot of other chemicals and hormones, including histamines and anti-histamines.

You may want to check out the library link at www.hufa.org for more info on diets that control blood sugar which is how you control insulin production.

When my daughter's asthma is acting up, I take her off dairy because she's a cougher rather than a wheezer, and dairy makes the cough worse. Other than that, the big challenge sometimes is to keep her hydrated.

Food in general, though, she has no problem with because she doesn't have any food sensitivities. Her pulminologist hasn't told me that there are good or bad foods for her asthma other than the dairy when she's coughing.

I don't know of a food that's good for asthma, but I know from experience that dairy products don't help. They apparently cause the bronchial tubes to be susceptible to irritation from foreign materials like dust, pollen, pollutants, etc. Both of my sons had asthma when they were small and taking them off dairy products cured them in just a few days. Well, there isn't really a food to eat just because of asthma. There may be complications due to asthma. So eat what you can and stay healthy. (Don't eat moldy/expired food)

I also learned from experience that acid reflux will cause asthma attacks... Every night when i would go to bed i would have such severe asthma attacks that would last for hours on end (albuterol doesnt work for me so i didnt take meds) until one night my boyfriend sat me up... poof it was gone within minutes... Dr. said i was from acid reflux... so if youre having problems after a grease packed meal take something for gas/indigestion. also if its a problem when you lay down... and you KNOW its not caused by your bedding or windows being open next to your head.

I think there are some foods you want to avoid, such as milk and ice cream (they both produce mucus for a short period of time). Trial and error can probably sort this out for you.
