Try getting some *normal* meat as anything a bit strange is unlikely to be popular with your guests, and rabbit, game and ostrich arent exactly cheap - Beef is the best choice as it doesnt matter if it is not cooked all the way through, and you can impress your friends with a great marinade - Marks & Spencer do some great and slightly obscure flavours - Lime and corriander, satay sauce, sweet chilli - take the time to make a good salad - I reccommend baby tomatoes, cucumber and mozzerela salad with a pesto dressing.

Ostrich is very tasty and a lot like beef but less fat.
As for the budgie question, definitely not a lot of meat on one.

1. Alligator: tastes a lot like chicken.
2. No but my uncle used to shoot robins and other small wild birds with a BB gun and BBQ them. My mom said they were very tasty. Budgies are too small. And if it's a domesticated one it has less meat and more fat due to lack of exercise.

Never heard of a budgie, but try these...
Drunk chicken made w/ tecate (mexican beer) and injected w/ lime juice.
Cabelas has a varitey of 'wild game' avaliable for puchase, or try to get a tur-duc-hen (hen stuffed in a duck, then stuffed in a turkey w/ layers of cornbread stuffing inbetween).
Grill the veggies on skewers for added flash and then do grilled fresh pineapple for desert.

You could try to barbecue fish that would be alittle different. of course the good old stand bys are great like steak or hamburgers. you could add mushrooms, diced onions, a couple of crackers and an egg to the hamburger, the egg helps to hold it together.
