It's actually because of the sugar substitute they use. Don't eat so much of the candy and you should be okay. It gives the candy a smooth texture and no aftertaste, which is the reason why they use it.

They aren't making it a laxative intentionally, really, it's just that the sugar substitute that they use in diabetic candy can cause that effect if you eat too much of it (sorbitol). They ARE trying to make it taste like regular candy, by the way, but there's just really no substitute for real sugar!

Agree with the first two answers. It isn't intentional, but frustrating nonetheless. I can eat sugar-free candies made with Splenda with no side-effects. But if there is Xilitol or Malitol ( I might be misspelling) I will suffer. So, I just stay away from candy...sigh...and indulge in Blue Bunny no sugar added ice cream bars. It is a good trade.

They use a sugar alcohol to sweeten it, and sugar alcohols have a laxative effect. That's just the facts of the matter.

Takeit easy on those things, too. They still have loads of calories from fat, and that's not so healthy for diabetics eitehr.
