No. The HIV virus can not survive without a human host. It's only spread by direct contact with bodily fluids like blood.

However, you might worry about things like cold, flu, cold sores, etc.

Absolutely. You have been put at risk because you have an open pathway to your bloodstream by any contaminants. I would sue the dentist or file a complaint against him so you can sue him down the line if you contract something later on. You have now been exposed to anything that the previous patient had eg hepatitis b, herpes, and even HIV. The HIV virus is present in saliva and without a cut or scratch in your mouth is negligible in risk but that risk sky rockets if you had drilling or any dental work done. I cannot believe your dentist was so negligent. I hope you get tested and let your doctor know as soon as possible. Hopefully he/she will not cover this up for the Dentist.

You would of had to use the cup within a minute of the time they used it. There is no proof that HIV is spread by saliva but it is thought that that is how the virus was passed to humans(By a bite from a money to a human). It is possible,I guess, but not likely

very unlikely , unless very recently an HIV patient used the cup just before you ,AND you have cuts or abrasions inside your mouth
