When I go dining (which is quite a lot, unfortunately), I look for things such as: Pleasant service, a knowledgable staff, a menu that is diverse and not too common (which shows the chef's creativity), the quality of food. Being that I live in NJ, smoking has been prohibitted, the air quality has improved greatly. Also, the noise factor is also a big factor in choosing a restauant. Noone wants to go to a fine dining experience, with the noise level of a rock concert (at least noone I know of).

Customer service is my #1 thing I look at to keep coming back to a particular restaurant. If my wait is long, I more than likely won't be back. The second is of course the food, then third is the enviornment. =)

It is a combination of the food (menu selection, quality, reasonable not gigantic portion sizes) and service.
