You should definitely get antibiotics. Since you can't get them without a prescription, you will have to call your doctor's office for the script. They will tell you what, and exactly how much and when to take them. Chances are you won't need antibiotic shot - pills probably will do it.
- so what are you getting tattooed? A "broken" heart?

well spooky having an MVP or mitral valve prolapse just means that u r having a floppy mitral valves whichs flops up and down with movement of blood in the heart. regarding need for antibiotics, they are only advised for the procedures which entail entering the normal bacteria residing on the body surface to gain entry in the blood stream. so tattooing requires a antibiotic shot.
however it is also depandant on the type of heart disease one has got. if u r having a mild MVP and there is no murmur (late systolic) then it may be unnecessary. better consult ur physician with ur echocardiogram.

Anytime you are encountering needles like going to the dentist or getting a tattoo, you really should take anti-biotics. It is always to be safe than sorry.
Having this knowledge and knowing how to take care of your body is always a good idea. Ask your doctor any question you may have concerning your health. He or she should be able to give you the info you seek.
Good luck!

No
Tattoing is unlike to cause significant bacteria in the blood
If you just have MVP and no valve leak, you really don't need the antibiotics.
BTW:We're assuming sterile needles and conditions here
