There are 2 kinds of diabetes --type 1 and type 2: Let's look at both:
Type 2 is the most common by far about 90% of all diabetics are type 2., which typically occurs in adulthood. We are seeing cases of teenagers acquiring type 2 diabetes, however. Main causes are lack of exercise and diets high in carbs. IN the US thre are about 20 million diabetics. THERE IS NO CURE FOR DIABETES --there are many treatments. Diet and exercise is among the best with medication. Ask your doctor for a HbA1C test to see if you're at risk. You want a result below 6.5%. Anything above 7% -- you're a diabetic and it's time to change how you're living
Type 1 diabetes is different -- it occurs in young people and requires insulin for the rest of the patient's life. In this form of diabetes, the pancrease cannot produce insulin at all. Type 1 diabetes can occur at any time in youth, Thirst, weight loss and sores that do not heal are all symptomes.

There are 2 kinds: 1) children usually get it, always requires insulin and 2) adults usually (however that's rapidly changing with increasing obesity in this country). Some of the symptoms are polyuria (peeing a lot), polydipsia (drinking a lot). When the glucose drops, may feel shaky, however when it's high sometimes no symptoms at all.

You probably know it already but here goes. There are two types: Type 1 (also known as juvinile diabetes - old term) is caused by your own body attacking itself. It has been known to start as young as a couple of months old and can start at any age up to about mid 30's. This type is known by your body not producing any insulin and you must take insulin to live. period.
The second is Type 2, (also known as adult diabetes, again, old term). It can start at any age but usually starts in middle age people - adults, hence the name. It is known by your body still producing insulin but either not enough to match your need or too little - again, not meeting your need. It is generally caused by lifestyle - little or no exercise, lots of food, heavy weight or overweight and genes.
