My sugar reading one hour after loading up myself with wheat spaghetti was 166 and I felt sleepy. Then it went down to 92 after one hour again. Am I considered diabetic?

Short answer... no.

The sleepiness that you feel is from the blood being shunted into your intestines to try to digest the food that you just ate.

I used to have low blood sugar and would feel sleepy after eating. Now I am a diabetic and feel sleepy after eating. Dumpiing more than 50 points in an hour can bring on some of the symptoms of low blood sugar.

My guess on the sleepys is that your body is getting low on sugar naturally prior to lunch, as you are wearing off your breakfast. You ingest, and your brain immediately realizes you have eaten, calling forth insulin production from the pancreas. However the digestive process is not in full gear yet (30 min to 1 hour after eating) so it may create an even lower blood sugar situation, bringing on the sleepys, even in normal people.

According to my doctors, 70-100 fasting is normal. Increasing to 140 with food is not too bad. Above that and you are flirting with diabetes.

Wheat spaghetti is classed as a carbohydrate. Carbohydrates have the affect of 1) making you feel full..therefore making you feel content and sleepy
2) Making the blood sugar levels rise..and therefore if a person is diabetic they would knwo to watch ther intake of such things.
If you go see your doctor he will explain it to you and run some glucose tolerance tests for you if you think you are diabetic..firstly, they will test your wee for sugar. then go from there.
The main thing symptom for diabetics is THIRST, you will constantly need to drink.

I am not familiar with that scale but if your blood sugar goes above normal you are considered a diabetic. Consequences of being a type II diabetic are proportional the level of sugar staying in you system too long. You should be able to control minor spikes in blood sugar by diet alone.
