This is a good Thai-esque one I make all the time. The proportions can be altered to your taste and should be tailored to your dish.

1 Mango diced

1 medium red onion minced

2-3 cloves grated fresh garlic

2 Roma tomatoes seeded and diced small

1 Serrano Chile brunoise

fresh cilantro

fresh lime juice to taste

rice wine vinegar to taste

1 cup mountain dew regular or diet

A shot or two of nuoc mam if you have the cajones

Vegetable oil to lube the pan

Cornstarch to thicken if desired

Add the vegetable oil to the pan over medium heat until it shimmers then add the vegetables less half the tomato and all of the mango. Saute until soft and season with a little sea salt as you go. Add the mountain dew just as the onions go translucent and reduce the liquid by about a third. Add the remaining tomato and cook them until the soften a bit. Add some cilantro chiffonade and the nuoc mam. Then begin adjusting the acidity with the lime and vinegar until is suits your specific dish. Thicken if you need to for your dish and your all set.

I love this sauce over catfish fillets that have been dredged lightly in flour and fried in peanut oil.

I have never seen the McDonald's brand sweet and sour sauce at the supermarket. They do sell the ketchup! Try going to the International section of the store and look for Suzi Wan brand sweet and sour sauce. It is not exactly the same... but you may find it is better! Enjoy :o)
