Yes. There are different kinds of procedures that are categorized as open heart surgeries. The most common is coronary artery bypass grafts. This is done when the arteries to the heart are blocked. It is possible after the surgery for the new grafts to get blocked and the surgery might have to be done again. The best way to prevent this is to try to make life style changes that keep those arteries from getting clogged again.
Another open heart surgery procedure is heart valve replacement or repair.

Yes.
In cardiovascular surgery, there are more and more ways to help and revise surgeries.
First there is angioplasty and stent placement. This can be done on native as well as bypassed vessels.
Then there is bypass or CABG aka Coronary Artery Bypass Graft. So there is a bypass, double bypass, triple bypass and quaduple... etc (CABGx2, CABGx3 etc..)
After that stage, if that fails, there is lysis of acute (new clots) in the arteries.....
Next, is a new bypass to go around the blocked bypasses.
Hope this is helpful

I'm 29 years old and I've had 5 open heart surgeries! I had my first surgery at 22 hours old and my last to date when I was 12. I was born with my hear being backwards. My arteries were crossed, so the drs. had to go in and un-cross them. The arteries that were suppose to go to by lungs were going to my heart and vice versa. My scar start right under my collar bone and stops right above my belly button.
