Since its on a Wed. going out and getting wasted probably isn't on the agenda. You could have a dinner party or cocktail hour at someones house. Maybe make it a themed event, like 1920's, disco fever, garden party, or whatever you gals are into. I would do simple appropriate drinks and spend your money on good food, favors, and decorations. If you want to go out to the bars, maybe do a dinner w/ a few close friends on wed. and have a larger bar hopping party on Friday night w/ everyone. Whatever you decide remember to have fun and be aware that people may have to work the next morning. Doing something where everyone important can participate and have a good time will be key to making this birthday extra special for your friend.

Take the day off work & spend the day at a spa instead. Book some special beauty treatments for the birthday girl. It's like a grown-up sleepover - no inhibitions! You will have a brilliant time.

A lot of what might be suggested is going to vary depending on the age of the party participants. For example.....chick flick and pizza would be appropriate for the girls (go and drool over Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribbean II), a strip club or a Chippendale Show would be appropriate for WOMEN.
What age are we talking about here sweetie?

All go out for dinner at a restaurant you usually wouldnt eat at. Like a Korean barbeque restaurant, or go out for a Yum Char chinese lunch.
Then all book in at a spa for foot massages.
Afterwards go somewhere for dessert, have a cake ordered, and enjoy it with a nice bottle of wine, but be careful, you might get drunk easily after the massage. It's not usually recommended to drink after a massage.
Then book hotel rooms and veg out for the rest of the night, and off to work in the morning.

For my friend's birthday, I tied "clues" to balloons and put them at businesses and other locations all around town. We went on a wild goose chase, with each clue leading to the next location. You could do something like this and end at a special surprise! For example, maybe a nice restaurant she wouldn't normally go to, or a spa where the girls could all go and get pampered. Have fun with it!

Take you bestest girlie friends and go to a health place where you can pamper yourselves all day then sit in a hot tub drinking champers all night. Sound expensive but most places work out not too bad midweek.

Don't know age of person party is for, but my family gave me a surprise "this is your life" party that was the greatest evening ever. Grub, drink and disco throughout the evening and seeing friends that I had lost contact with years ago was great and has given me another expanded circle of friends to socialise with.

Sriper out of a cake works on any occasion. You need only adjust the decorum.

Drink plenty of beer, and play PS2, Gamecube and X-box. Then order a bunch of pizza, and enjoy.
