Thousands of people do it every single day, and have for millenia. I haven't eaten animals for nearly 20 years. You do not need flesh to nourish your body.

The man who coined the term vegan, Donald Watson, recently died at age 94. His diet was wholefoods with a B vitamin supplement. You can live as a vegan. The healthiest way is to eat fruits, veggies, nuts and grains that haven't been overprocessed. I use a B vitamin supplement for insurance. There are no tribes of people that evolved without eating any animal products, so man's optimum diet may not be entirely vegan. All the same, we can eat lower on the food chain and if meat or animal products are consumed, purchase them from organic small farmers who let their animals live well until slaughter. Every meatless meal you eat reduces the overall number of animals who suffer, so do what you can.

You definitely can get everything you need from plants. In fact, you'll probably be healthier because you'll most likely eat more whole foods. A multivitamin is probably not necessary. What IS necessary is a plan to make sure you get complete proteins by combining different types of grains & beans--peanut butter & bread, for instance, or beans & rice, beans & corn, etc. Animal proteins provide a complete array of essential amino acids that plants lack, but it's easy to combine plants to get complete proteins if you know what to look for, and it is not necessary to have a complete protein in one meal as long as the complementary foods are consumed during the same day. It's easy to do. Some foods like soybeans/tofu come very close to having a complete array of amino acids. If you're serious about not eating the animals, I applaud you.

Yes of course but I wouldn't believe everything you read that is posted by animal rights organizations because thier opinion is biased. I assunme you are refering to PETA concerning the violent images you have seen. Let me just say that becoming a Vegetarian is a lifelong decision for most people and is a very healthy way to live. As for the missing nutrients you claim are missing in a vegetarian diet, it can be substituted by animal by-products such as cheese and yogurt, soy products, and a multi-vitamin.

yes,most definitely. I believe most Hindu do not eat meat. You can research their diet to find options for replacing meat from your diet. Although, you should visit your Dr regarding drastically changing your diet, because it could have adverse affects to your body. Also it seems like the issue you have comes not from eating meat but the process the meat takes to get to your table. Maybe it would be a good idea to research different brands of meat before you stop eating meat all together..... FYI, most fish are killed by suffocation. If that's to cruel to you then maybe there is a difference of opinion in how animals should be killed. Consider that most companies take the cheapest alternative to bring you the best price for those chicken fingers you crave. :-)

Yes however turning the entire country vegitarian is impractical. So much land and pesticides would have to be used to maintain the food production, not to mention all the gasoline we would have to use to ship the produce to places that don't have sufficient soil. What we need to focus on is treating animals with care and respect. Read The Omnivore's Dilema by Michael Pollan, it explains this incredibly well.

Absolutely YES! We will be able to obtain everything that we need. You will have to do some research about how to substitute animal derived products and nutrients with plant derived, but it is easy. And of coarse it is easier to live without the animal blood on your hands whenever you buy something animal derived or animal tested.

Yes, people have been doing it for a long time. It takes some meat eaters a long time to get over the notion that we must eat it. There are many recipes and options for meals not involving animal products.

I have been vegetarian since the age of 11 and my daughter has been vegetarian since the day she was born. We are both extremely fit and healthy. We eat a varied balanced diet of vegs, pasta, rice, bread etc and take an all-in-one multivitamin daily. Neither one of us gets ill very often and we both have plenty of energy, clear skin, glossy hair etc. So yes, it is entirely possible and yes, the most humane thing to do.

yes but not the taste. i love meat!! especially steak and ribs. yum. there is NO way we can get the taste from meat without eating animals.
i suppose we could treat them better but they're gonna get killed anyways.
