I know exactly how you feel. My ma got hep C when I was about 10 or something. I can't really remember. But to answer your question, you're probably in the clear from getting it from your ma. It's spread from either dirty/infected needles, or sex with an infected partner. I'm sure there's ways to get it otherwise, but those two are most likely. Have you ever been tested? I've had friends who got that, but they, sadly, got it from dirty needles. My ma got it from sex with someone other than my dad. When she found out, she rushed us to the hospital to get a blood test done on me and my brother. It came out negative. However, I suggest NOT to use her razors or tweezers/nail clippers, just to be on the safe side.

To answer the main question, yes you're at risk. But no more at risk than for getting herpes, HIV/AIDS, etc. I'm sorry your ma's an alcoholic on top of everything. My dad is, too. Worrying about her is understandable. No offense to your ma, but I don't think she's being very fair to you. Though it's her disease, she is your mom, and she probably isn't emotionally available to you. That's her job as a parent. I wish I had an answer for her alcoholism. It tears families apart, and severely affects a child's sense of self worth. Whether things get better or worse, just remember this: You are an individual, with unique talents and qualities that make you special. You can be loved, and are loved.

Hepatitis C is transmitted from infected blood. If you ever got her blood in your eyes, nose, mouth or on a cut in your skin, it could have been transmitted. Sex is one way, but not the only way for it to be transmitted. It can also be transmitted from sharing needles or the other ways I mentioned. It would be very wise for you to get tested. Not just becuase of becoming sexually active, but because if you have been exposed you will need treatment. People can live with it their whole lives with very few symptoms, but some people will have worse symptoms and it can be very serious or even deadly. Put your mind at ease and get tested.

My father had this. I didn't find out until I gave birth to my first child because of the family history they ask. So, I would say no. I asked the doctor and he said as long as your friend, relative, etc doesn't have the full symptoms, you should be fine. My dad had no symptoms. It wouldn't hurt to see a doctor though just to get all the facts. Good luck!

Have blood test first to make sure you dont have it. You probably do not. Dont share razors, toothbrushes etc. This is a mysterious disease. The incidence of it being passed through sex is not high on the list.

Hep C is not easily caught thru sexual contact. It is contacted mostly thru blood. Tooth brushes, razors and even sniffing cocaine off of dirty dollar bills are big issues.
