"When in Rome, do as the Romans" That said, when I'm in a Mexican restaurant, I don't order Peking Duck. I live in a city that has a large Asian, Mexican populations so we have any number of small, authentic restaurants to try. I usually ask the waiter what there best dish is and try that.

When traveling I like to try regional favorites. The servers are usually pretty helpful. When I'm at home it's T-1 on the Taco bell menu w/ a side of Guac

If it's a Thai restaurant, I love to order Pad Kee Mow, also known as drunken noodles. Gotta make sure they use the rice noodles, the thinner ones, not the wide fat ones.

It matters which restraunt. But usually if there's pasta or ravioli (i love italian food) then i'll order that. But at a seafood place i'll order the catch of the day and at a steak place, a steak of course, and at a mexican place, any burrito with no beans (i hate beans in my burritos).

I love pasta, but where I'm someplace I'm not sure I'll like the food I'll stick with Quesadillas or Fajitas, chicken strips, etc.

Chicken marsala and tiramisu at an italian place. Samosa, biryani rice and tandori chiken for indian, agedosi dofu, maki and mochi ice cream for Japanese, I could go on and on. What rest are you referring to?
