Can you be infected w the herpes virus w/out ever having had a breakout or any symptoms? Ive heard that you can be a carrier & still spread the disease without having suffered the actual symptoms themselves. Just wondering if this is true.

Oh yes, definately. You could never ever show symptoms, and you can definately still spread it, and just maybe the person that you are with, gets it and shows symptoms, and that would be about the only way that you would find out. And in that case you can never really be sure, because if there really aren't symptoms there isn't a whole lot the doctor can do, it is very easy to say you have herpes if there is an actual sore. But yes you can definately spread it with no symptoms ever or at all. Good Luck though, and just try to stay as safe as possible.

Oh yeah, read this I got it from the website listed below:

Most people infected with HSV-2 are not aware of their infection. However, if signs and symptoms occur during the first outbreak, they can be quite pronounced. The first outbreak usually occurs within two weeks after the virus is transmitted, and the sores typically heal within two to four weeks. Other signs and symptoms during the primary episode may include a second crop of sores, and flu-like symptoms, including fever and swollen glands. HOWEVER, MOST INDIVIDUALS WITH HSV-2 INFECTION MAY NEVER HAVE SORES, OR THEY MAY HAVE VERY MILD SIGNS THAT THEY DO NOT EVEN NOTICE OR THAT THEY MISTAKE FOR INSECT BITES OR ANOTHER SKIN CONDITION.

For some people it is possible. Usually you have your first breakout within 2-20 after being infected with the virus. But, it can take months and sometimes years to actually show symptoms of genital herpes. This is pretty rare though. You can go years without having reoccurring breakouts though. The longer you have genital herpes, the less breakouts you have. I have had genital herpes for 5 years now, and my last outbreak was over a year and a half ago.

Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) can also take months or years to show symptoms. People can go years without having any sores.

Yes. You can carry the disease for months without breaking out and there fore blame the symptoms on a bad cold or flu.

That's highly unlikely. You would probably know if you had it at the time of a breakout. Its the sex partner that you cant always see the outbreaks on.

Once you get it, it will stay dormant in your body and it will reactivate at times of disease and weakness.
