I wonder if you're willing to back that statement up by never eating in a restaurant again. You could always lobby
Congress to make a law stating that waiters get paid at least regular minimum wage instead of $2.15 per hour. Don't blame the people taking the jobs, blame the people who decide their hourly wages.

Are you asking for it...
I've been a bartender and a food waitress. My first waitress job was when I was 16. Waiting tables and bartending not only got me through college, but helped me to earn extra money when I became a single mom 20+ years ago.
Bartending is hard enough without the constant attempts to paw and prod, but is nothing compared to the often rude and arrogant customer in a resturaunt. It's never a surprise when people act this way, but put yourself in your waiter/waitress's shoes.
You may think they are below you because they wait tables and thus feel it's OK to be rude and expect perfection. Your probably one of those people who sends food back for no good reason, constantly complains and then leaves a meager or no tip. You're the kind of person who makes sure we earn every penny we get even when you have no intention of contributing anything to our purse.
This is honest work we do and we deserve to be paid. You should be happy to have a person who's willing to clean up your mess and take your garbage out.
I hope you think about this the next time you stiff your server.

You,got to be kidding begging? Why take a construction job,and be so stupid as to work in all that dreaded heat, and skin cancer, heat exhaustion etc. Rain, hail, tornado's etc... Gratitude for the person serving the food to your table. Restaurants, bar runner's etc. Gratitude for bringing your food drinks,so you and family can enjoy ones self. This isn't called begging. Hope that you are not the sorta, person that wants wants and doesn't leave a tip. Because this is the way they make their money. If,you are a cheap person, then go to a buffet, and serve your self or better just stay home,or drive through those greasy places that are all around the world

I'm a waitress and I do not beg for tips I get tipped on the service I provide for my customers. I make a lot more than the average joe out there. If you think it is begging don't go out to eat. I work with many people that have college degrees some even have master's. Also waitressing is a flexible job so people with families can still be with their children and work. Would you rather have us be on welfare so you have to pay for us to live. That is begging

Construction guys.... paycheck to paycheck, job to job, hardworking to be sure but..... people always have to eat and drink. You go into that bar to spend that check and you want to be the bartenders friend. If you are good at the restaurant thing you know this. There are those who are smart and know how to talk and those who are good at lifting things. Odds are those who know how to talk are going to go a lot farther because the guys who have been in construction for years still don't know how to act no matter how much money they make. Bottom line is I can make tons of money, move on to most any job and not look like I am 20 years older than I am. It comes down to a life choice. Be a redneck or have what rednecks would like to have

Different people have different strengths and skills. Why would you get a job as a construction worker if you aren't suited to that job? If you instead have a good skillset for waiting tables, you can make more over the long run, doing well in that field than by doing poorly in the construction field.

Around here, waitresses make as much or more than regular construction joe jobs. And it's inside, in the AC, you get a free or cheap meal at the end of the day, and if you work hard enough you can wind up managing a restaurant yourself. Not too shabby.

I was a bartender and got more in tips than i would have if I stayed in the construction industry. I was clearing almost a thousand a wknd just in tips. (this was a large night club) There was no way the boss would pay that in salary alone. Its not a shame. I didn't beg for em, I had to work my fu##n *** off for em!!!! Its a service industry and I gave excellent service.

Actually, you can make alot of money as a server--more than alot of career-minded professionals. Just because YOUR friends serve at Steak n Shake doesn't mean servers can't do well at other places. Maybe people frown upon your construction job and assume you are just a fat meathead with an IQ of 70--which I agree wouldn't be fair. Do yourself a favor and try to hide your ignorance.

You don't have to beg if you're good at what you do. My sister's a waitress and makes more than my mother, who is a teacher.
