Insulin Injection Pens?

Question

Can anyone help?! I have type one diabetes and use the Humapen Ergo, (think thats how you spell it) But are there any other SMALLER devices out there? Something thats easily carried in a pocket without it sticking into my leg or hip everytime I sit down!... I've looked on the internet but I always get redirected to a site that has nothing to do with what I'm looking for! Any help would be great, thanks. David.

I don't think so. Insulin pens tend (by nature) to be long, big and bulky. My Novopen Jr. is about the langth of a plastic picnic knife, and does half units. I use Novolog brand insulin 'cause I have a pump and it is more tempature sensitive than humolog (I had trouble with Humolog a few years ago, because it was going bad while it was still in my resivior).

If there isn't another pen out there, you could try sticking your current one in a cargo pocket. Cargo pants will fit just about anything, and should be less likely to jab you in the leg. I know its an imperfect solution, but it might help.

Finally, if you can convince your doctor/insurance company, an insulin pump is a really good investment, and i promise, it rarely hits your in the leg when you carry it in a pocket.

You are running into the problem of delivery device size and supplied sizes of insulin vials. The vast majority of pen size insulin comes in 300 unit sizes - that's 3 ml at 100 units per cc or ml. There is none smaller that I know. So the device you use to deliver the insulin must count and deliver precisely the correct amount you tell it. So it's not going to be all that small and be accurate. I use two pens... Click for Lantus and Flexpen for Novalog. I would suggest that you consider using your stomach as well as your leg as the injection site: 1) for rotation and 2) best absorbing site. As for carrying it, I clip the whole thing on my belt.
