One needs a lot more greens to produce a pound of meat than 1 pound. Why then are veggie burgers more expensive?

Everybody pays for meat. Federal grants and subsities go to pay for the growing of animal feeds and the pumping of water to feed and water cattle and other animals. (not to mention the fishing industry grants who sell 40% of their catch as fish meal to feed animals) It's estimated that beef would cost $30/lb if water subsites went away and $90/lb if all farming subsites and grants went away. Veggie burgers are overpackaged. If you want veggie burgers cheap you have to go to super Wal-mart (bad company ethics) or ask a local Seventh Day Adventist church if they will sell you their veggie stuff. I buy veggie foods by the case from them.

I've never found veggie burgers more expensive, or even close to as expensive as meat. Sound's like you're shopping at an overpriced store.....

Demand vs. Supply is setting the price. Also, lots of them are organic, with no antibiotics and pesticides. I bet the price is closer if you compare it to Organic Beef.

Are you sure that it takes more greens to make a veggie burger ? Cows eat a lot.

It cost much more to produce a pound of beef than a pound of vegetables. Cattle require feed, medicine and irrigated water. Also, health conscience people are willing to pay more for a veggie burger, so they charge more for them.

It's a supply and demand problem. Only a select few like to eat veggie burgers, so in order to make a profit, they have to make them more expensive.

Supply and Demand. Everyone is one the eat healthy bandwagon. Which is a good thing don't get me wrong. But also the are a little more tedious on how they are produced.

because they make meat in mass production by feeding the poor animals chemicals to offer more meat. their is also politics involved. they make the prices for meat cheaper and the amount purchases increases, thus forcing family farms to grow mass amounts of meat which is practically impossible for them.... then comes the agriculture corporation, they take over farm businesses and treat animals with utter disrespect and feed chemicals etc... to the animal, eventually fulfilling an evil dream of making animals in mass produce. everyone reading please follow this link and watch movie 1 and 2

It seems like everything that's better for you is more expensive. And they wonder why people have poor diets....Because that's all they can afford!
