A true vegetarian eats NO meat! A lacto-ovo-vegetarian abstains from meat (including poultry and fish), but still consumes egg and dairy products. A vegan abstains from ALL animal products (e.g. meat, dairy products, honey, and eggs) and doesn't wear clothing made from animal fibers and abstains as much as is practical and possible from products that are tested on animals. A person who eats chicken or fish but doesn't eat red meat is NOT a vegetarian! In fact, the word "vegetarian" was coined by the people who founded the Vegetarian Society in the UK in the 1840s to describe someone who abstains from eating all animal flesh.

A vegan eats nothing that came from an animal (meats, eggs, milk, etc.) Other vegetarians wont eat meat, but will eat cheese, eggs, and drink milk. There are also people who are vegetarians (sort of) b/c they cannot digest or are allergic to certain meats, that is why they will not eat red meat, but might eat chicken and fish. Others consider themselves vegetarian, but they aren't b/c they still eat meat once in a while.

NONE! If you are a TRUE vegetarian you would understand that the word it self is a greek word that means "wholly full of life".
It is the LIFE FORCE of the LIVING PLANT substances that you are after! NOT the DECAYING BODY of a DEAD animal.
In the vegetarian world there are VEGANS who eat ONLY PLANT substances and then there are vegetarians who eat EGGS and DIARY PRODUCTS as well. Called Ova/lacto Vegetarian.
You see the idea of including eggs and dairy is that you are not KILLING an animal to get these food items. In fact the eggs are unfertilized and the milk comes from the cows teets.
So tell your friends they ARE NOT vegetarian!

Depends on your definition of "vegetarian". Some only deny themselves red meat. So fish, chicken and eggs are in. Some eat no meat at all. There are some called "vegans" who don't eat eggs or dairy. It all depends on your preference, mate. Take care and stay healthy.

Vegans eat nothing with any meat products. Vegetarians seem to really cut out red meat mostly. You don't have to be a "vegetarian" if your goal is to eat healthy. A lot of those that choose the vegetarian lifestyle do so to promote awareness about what they consider to be cruel methods of slaughter of the animals. If you are doing it for health reasons, red meat is probably the worst for you. But, wow, a good ribeye tastes good!

Strict vegetarians do not eat any meat. That includes red meat, pork, poultry (including eggs), seafood, and dairy.
Ovo-lacto vegetarians add eggs and dairy to their diet.
If someone eats fish, they are technically not a vegetarian, they simply choose not to eat other animal products. Some people will call themselves a vegetarian who eats fish, but most true vegetarians will dispute this.
Someone who eats chicken is not a vegetarian. At all. They just choose not to eat other animal products.
You can eat whatever you choose, but what you call yourself is another matter.

All vegetarians (whether they care to admit it or not!) eat meat. All vegetables and grains (especially those grown "organically") contain a fair amount of bugs when harvested. It is impossible to harvest crops without trapping some bugs! So vegetarians are eating these "meats".
For an accurate measure of how much "meat" they are eating, check out these tables from the FDA:
