Not necessarily. HIV, for example, won't show up positive for at least 6 months. You should go back in a couple months and get tested again. I personally get tested every year.

Despite what these people have told you, it takes AT LEAST 6 months for HIV to show up in a test, definitely not 6-8 weeks. Look it up anywhere on the internet. This is probably the only STD that you could be infected with without getting a positive result. (That and HSV which can really only be tested with a swab of an affected area. Though I believe that there is some type of blood work available, I've been told that this method is the best.)

If you've had no significant growth, that probably means no. The best thing for you to do is get your doctor to explain the results if you don't understand them.

"Ali" is wrong. The majority of people will test positive for HIV after 6-8 weeks. The recommended time for a definitive test is usually 3 months, but is some scenario's 6 months. If your exposure was not a high risk exposure, IE having unprotected sex multiple times with a partner confirmed to be HIV+, then a 4 month negative test would be conclusive. It sounds like you have a clean bill of health STD wise. However, this site is NOT a substitute for a medical professional. If you have questions I suggest that you talk to your Doctor about it.
