I got Type 1 diabetes when I was 10 and the only other person in my family with it is my grandma and she has type 2... You get type 2 diabetes from being overweight most of the time but there is no way to stop type 1. You can decrease the chances of getting type 2 by losing some weight and exercising but you can not prevent type 1 in any way. Most likely type 1 is just inherited. Do you know what kind the other ppl in your family have?
If you ever do get diagnosed with diabetes, I would reccomend using an insulin pump. That way you don't have to take shots or pills. And its a lot safer. Read about them at www.minimed.com or www.animas.com.

If it runs in your family and you're overweight, then your chances are higher than a normal person would have of getting diabetes. The best way you can do is eat healthy, exercise, and get routine check up from ur Dr. for blood work etc. Diabetes can be controlled so take it seriously and do some research. Hope this helps ya =) Good luck

Contrary to popular belief, diabetes is not a disease but a condition. Even though your chances of getting diabetes very high, by doing YOGA, by drinking bitter guard juice regularly, you will be in a position to contain or almost eliminate and live a happy life. Avoid stress and exercise well. YOGA is the key. You may also follow ART OF LIVING breathing exercise which I understand has helped many people to come out of the condition.
I am not a specialist but I myself keep studying various options.
I do not have diabetic.

yes you have a high risk of getting it, since it is in your family! If you are overweight you have a more higher risk. cut down sugar, don't eat lots, only few! and try to have a normal weight if you are not. and do exercises like 30 min walk. you will nearly cut all the risk if you do so. but don't let diabetes start bcos it will be too late! I have in my family too like grandma....!

Don't eat too much sugar and ask your doctor he's the only one who will know.
When your pregnant for some reason your not allowed to eat too much sugar because there's a risk of getting diabetes, for all women, so if you do get pregnant talk to your doctor or midwife about it.
