from personal experience, its not any more difficult than other genres, its just much fattier - more cream, butter, stuff like that. and some of the ingredients are more difficult to obtain.

Yes, French Cuisine is hard to do. The Cuisine is technique intensive. It places a great deal of importance on starting out from scratch with good fresh ingredients and making great things out of them. . It's very much worth learning because in the end you will be a much better cook than you are now.

I really don't think it is much harder, especially the meat dishes. As with all cooking, the ingredients must be fresh and chosen carefully. It is elaborate cuisine, herbs, wine, etc... and often has to be supervised, but I cook it (nicely), and I am just a good not great cook. The most tricky French meals, I find, are the ones that involve dough and baking, like quiches and pies. Oh yes, French pastries are another story altogether, very tricky.

well, if you are used to cooking italian food, I guess french is not herder. I am German and I do a lot of "european" cooking (spanish, italian, french, greek). If you are used to cook from scratch, using lots of fresh ingredients, always use fresh herbs as well, then this french style should be a piece of cake for you!!!! Don't get insecure by people saying "yes, it is hard". All it takes is trialks and errors, right? You always learn by doing!
What we here in Germany call "the french way of living" basically means that the French ALWAYS take their time while eating. They have at least 3-5 passes at one menue. Always end with a slice of cheese (apparently "closes" the stomach) and finish with a cup of coffe or espresso. They like to gather with their whole family, drinking wine, no beer (especially dry red wine which is much healthier than whire wine and good for your heart)

Good luck!
