Stop Snoring Tips

The following tips will hopefully give you relief with your snoring problems. It's important to remember that different remedies will have varying success depending on the individual.

1)…Elevate your head by sleeping on a thicker pillow or multiple pillows will help reduce your snoring.

2)…Don't drink alcoholic beverages, take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or antihistamines right before going to sleep, they will cause your muscles to relax and limit your air passage way.

3)…Avoid dairy products, which can cause mucus build-up right before you go to sleep.

4)…If you are overweight, losing some weight will reduce snoring by increasing the space in your air passage way.

5)…Sleeping on your side instead of your back will help to prevent snoring.

6)…A common remedy to prevent sleeping on your back is to sew a tennis ball to the back of your shirt; the discomfort of sleeping on the ball will prevent you from staying on your back.

7)…Try following a regular sleep routine.

8)…Try taking in a little bit of honey before sleeping.

9)…Don't eat a big meal right before bed, if your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and limit breathing passage ways.

10)...Avoid eating "rich" foods such as cakes, cookies, chocolate and pizza.

11)…Sleep on a firmer pillow, a pillow that's too soft encourages your throat muscles to relax and narrows your air passageway.

12)…Inhale steam before sleeping or sleep in a room with a humidifier turned on, which will reduce congestion and moisturize the throat.

13)…Purchase some nasal strips and put them on before going to sleep. Nasal strips will open up your nostrils and allow more air to come in, thus reduce snoring.

14)…If you are a smoker, stop smoking, if that is not feasible then avoid smoking right before you go to bed. Smoking causes inflammation and swelling of the throat.

15)…Take anti-snoring pills or use anti-snoring nasal spray.

16)…Consult a medical profesional if your snoring continues to adversely affect your sleep.

Good Luck

I have sleep apnea. And it is a big problem. I didn't even know that I snored. My husband mentioned it but he said it was very loud. I just couldn't sleep at night, toss & turn. So eventually, I started sleeping on the couch since I was the one with the problem. When you have sleep apnea, you actually stop breathing but with the CPAP machine you have a constant flow of
air which keeps you breathing.
I think it would help you to have this test performed. You are in a
room, sort of like your bedroom so you can relax. I stopped breathing an average of 2 minutes , 10+times per hour. So of course it was an average of at least 20 minutes per hour. It will
help you sleep better, you will quit snoring and you will feel
refreshed the next morning. Good Luck.

Contact your physician and inquire about a Polysomnigram. This is actually a study of the systems of your body while you sleep. There's no bulky equipment, and the rooms are usually very comfortable; usually resembling your own bedroom. Everything from measurements of muscles to breath measurements are taken during this procedure = all while you rest comfortably and never know. There's more to snoring than a clogged nasal passage.

Your problem maybe sleep apnea. My husband snored for years and I actually ended up on the couch because he was so loud. Finally I told my doctor about it in passing and he recommended a sleep analysis. Well, low and behold, my husband has sleep apnea. He had to go to a sleep center and that is how he was diagnosed. Unfortunately, there isn't a drug that can actually cure that, but you will have to sleep with a breathing machine. What I like about the machine is that you really have to listen for it because it is very, very quiet. May I also mention, that sleep apnea can actually kill a person by enlarging their hearts, it also causes weight gain. So, please have yourself checked out. Your insurance should cover it.

My husband used to snore terribly. Turned out to be sleep apnea. He now sleeps with a CPAP machine. No more snoring. Particularly if you are heavy, the tissue in the back of your throat vibrates in your sleep. If this tissue is big enough, your breathing is obstructed, and that causes apnea. (You stop breathing, your sleep is interrupted, you never achieve REM.) I would see your doctor and perhaps he might suggest a sleep study. That could get to the bottom of your snoring problem.

If you're overweight, loose weight. If you're normal weight, you might have something going on with your palate. Sometimes having your tonsils and/or adenoids removed helps. I've also heard of a laser treatment thats proven helpful for some people. See a doctor to be certain.

try to see your doctor and get tested for sleep apnea.

as for therapy -- they use a device called CPAP for people with sleep apnea -- it's a mask that you wear and there is constant air flow that keeps your airways open -- no side effects or anything, it's completely safe -- a little uncomfortable at first though, and takes time to get used to it, but will be a big help.

i am not concerned at the snoring itself -- and that this will keep it "quiet" i am concerned at the effects -- with sleep apnea, you ventilate less -- and this has a big impact in your body.

they make a little spring like thing that you put on your nose, its like a bandaid with a little plastic bone in it and once taped on your nose it will lift the nostrils open, its said to help amazingly well, also if you are over weight lose weight now, and if you have sinus trouble get medicine. then you really should see a big change. oh and if you drink booze stop that makes you snore too.,
