First of all it shows that you love your Mom very much, you are here asking for help on how to help her! Your a great and awesome daughter! I just wanted to tell you that because it is true and you should be told. Now as for your Mom, most important is hug her alot, Mom's like hugs... when she has sweating spells, you can turn on a fan and point it towards her and just above the heigth of her head. The cool air will settle on her. You should also talk with her doctor that diagnosed her to see what to expect and get advice from her doctor on what you can do to help her be more comfortable. Her doctor will know more about her situation and what she needs and when you would need to get her to the hospitial. Give her a lot of love and support. Your on the right path by asking for help, I commend you for that!

It is best to just stick with the plan that the hospital gives her. Attend the classes with your mom when possible. If you keep asking opinions you'll get lots of confusing information because everyone is a little bit different. Some people need insulin, some pills, and some don't take medication at all. Some people eat an extremely low carb diet and others do not. Ask the doctors or nurses about support groups. Go to all the available diabetes classes and nutrition classes that are available with the doctor and at the hospital. Diabetes isn't a death sentance. It is manageable and treatment has a certain logic to it. Be aware of all the people that will want to talk about teas and other herbs and spices and such as a "cure" to diabetes. There is no cure, only treatment.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

The first thing I would do is get yourself and your mother educated on all areas of the disease. As a diabetic I was in denial when first diagnosed and I suffered as a result. Ask her doctor to prescribe a diabetic education course. That course made a huge difference in my life and has resulted in a near "reversal" of my issues. Though you never become a non-diabetic again, it can be controlled! You also need to make sure she has a blood glucose monitor and checks her blood often. I check mine a least three times a day, alternating the times between before mealtime, after mealtime, and the like. I also record the readings, this helps me and my doctor track how things are going. If medication is required, help your mother to know how important it is to take the medicine, it can make all the difference in the world regarding how she feels and her ability to avoid any of the possible side effects of diabetes like change/loss of vision, neuropathy and inability to heal properly. Most of all, be there for her and encourage her, that was my number one need and the best way my family and friends helped.

Hi sorry to hear about your mum. My dad has had type two diatbetes for 10 years now so he is pretty clued up.
The best thing to do is to help her understand why and how her diet must change. She should get information from the doctor with advise. The key to this is to manage her blood sugar level and make sure it stays stable so she gets as little symptoms as possible. She needs to make sure she does not eat a vast majority of sugary foods in one ocasion as this would push her level up dramatically, its all about modiration and eating a balanced diet. There may be ocasions were her blood sugar drops dramatically and she starts to feel shakey and weak but do not feel frightened. she may even become agressive and angry but again this is all part of the symptoms. if this is the case you need to remember that she needs sugar in her system as fast as possible or else she could go into a hypo (which is very rare as long as she checks her level daily). the mose effective way to do this is to get her to drink a glass of warm warter with 2 spoon fulls of sugar desolved. she will feel better immediately.
She will be fine and after a couple of months of getting into the habit of taken her medication etc she wont even give it a second thought.
Take care and wish her luckx

the best advice I can give you is to get online & read read read...there is a world of info out there on diabetes!! The sweats are more than likey due to hypoglycemia(low blood sugar) and need the same attention as on eof her spells.....sugar, like Oj, regular soda, etc etc.......
When she goes into a sweaty spell sugest for her to check her blood sugar then you will know FOR SURE what action needs to be taken. I have had diabetes(Type1) for 18 years and I have learned that just like in life everyone is different. Everyone has sugar reactions but sometimes the symptoms arent quite the same as other peoples. If she was just diagnosed, there is going to be a period of uncertainity & trial & error while her & her doctor get her meal/medication/diet/exercise requirements figured out so the best thing you can do is be educated!!! Also be sure shes keeping good track of her blood sugar readings, this is really the most accurate way to know whats going on in her body & what she needs. Shes going to need to adjust her diet, exercise plan, pretty much her whole way of going about thigns so the best you can do is try to help her in the process of learning a new life style. LIke I said get on line just search "diabetes", "diabetes lifestyles" ..taht type of thing & get reading.....education will be on e of the best thigns you can have to help your Mom. If your old enough ask your Mom if its alright to go to her Dr aptmnts w her to talk to her Dr & ASK HIM QUESTIONS!!! All the questions you have , thats what he's there for, he should be more than happy to answer them to help out his patient!!! Good luck & if you want to contact me you can, Im not Type 2 but Ive lived w diabetes for a very long time! :D

What you can do is to get her medically evaluated. Get the baselines tests like
Fasting blood sugar level
Random blood sugar level
Urine Test
Blood Urea Nitorgen (To check renal function, as diabetes effect the kidneys as well)
Blood Cholesterol
Now you can see what treatment she needs. Get a physician who examins her at least 3 monthly. Do keep an eye on her eyesight, and get an ophthalmologist checkup. Diabetes is the second most common cause of Blindness.
For you, you can get her healthy and balanced diet, regular excercise, a check on her blood sugar level, relieve her depression. talk to her about this disease. Make her adopt a healthy life style. Tell her to keep herself hydrated. Take good care of her feet or any injury she gets.
Breaking out in sweats may indicate hot flushes, if your mother is menopausal age. She needs supportive treatment.

Get her to walk with you. Every day!!!! Even if it's short walks. The body needs exercise to improve the usage of the glucose that isn't being used properly now. If she is overweight, the exercise is even more crucial...even a ten percent body weight loss would help her A1c test a lot....I was feeling like she was....I go workout at Curves for women almost everyday....and that and Weight Watchers have been a sheer godsend for me....I am not out of diabetes danger...but it's a LOT better for me...

First and most important is to routinely check her blood sugar everyday, 3-4x/day especially when she has her spells or when doing physical activity ex. a walk in the park. Always bring simple sugar ex. plain sugar, juice, to give to ger when she has a spell. U can also tell her to take somple sugar when she feels the symptoms by herself just incase ur not there. After the simple sugar, give her complex sugar like a sandwich, peanut butter and jelly etc to keep her blood sugar up. simple sugar doesn't last to long. Hypoglyceimic attacks absolutely needs to be taken seriously for it can lead to diabetic coma as worse case scenario. knowing the sign and symptoms of hypoglycemia is very important and needs immediate attention. if this happens alot, then u need to see ur Dr, her meds might need to be adjusted. hope this helps ya =)
