Yes! Herpes simplex virus 1 (cold sores) cause about 30% of primary genital herpes infections. Even though it is pretty rare, it is possible.
My fiance and I are the exact opposite of you and your husband. We both have genital herpes, but neither of us have cold sores. I have had genital herpes for 5 years now and he has had them about 8 months. We both could possibly get cold sores from giving each other oral sex, but we have never got them. This is also pretty rare.

yes........The virus may be present from the beginning of the prodromal syndrome, during the outbreak, and until sores heal. You should take the following precautions to avoid spreading the virus to other people or to other places on your body:
wash hands frequently
avoid touching the herpes sores
avoid touching other open sores
avoid rubbing your eyes, although infecting the eyes this way is very rare. Herpes lesions on the cornea cause a serious problem requiring immediate evaluation and treatment by an ophthalmologist, as seriously impaired vision can result.
avoid kissing anyone, especially infants less than 6 weeks old. Herpes infections can be very serious in infants because of their immature immune system.
abstain from oral sex.

Yes.
The herpes simplex virus (HSV) (also known as Cold Sore, Night Fever, or Fever Blister) is a virus that manifests itself in two common viral infections, each marked by painful, watery blisters in the skin or mucous membranes (such as the mouth or lips) or on the genitals. The disease is contagious, particularly during an outbreak, and is incurable with present technology.

herpes is tricky.... it comes in two flavors HSV1 and HSV2. if your husband has cold sores on his lips (which is more commonly HSV1) then he cant get it in his genital area. once its in your body its there...in that same location to stay. the only way he could get genital herpes is if he came in contact with HSV2, which would come from u or another sex partner. its like catching a cold- each cold is caused by a dif virus- u cant catch the same virus twice so he couldnt get hsv1 twice (or in two places- oral genital). and most likely, after seven yrs u prbly have come in contact with his hsv virus either at the lips or genital region. u may just be asymptomatic. as long as u two stay committed u should be ok. doctors treat herpes as a non life threatenin, common virus. think of how common the cold sore is... so dont worry. if the both of u have performed oral sex on one another throughout your marriage with no genital outbreaks, with commitment, nothing is gonna happen below the belt for either of you.

No, herpes simplex (cold sores) do not develop into genital herpes. That is a myth. However, if you have an OPEN sore on your mouth and kiss him, and he has an open wound ( from shaving or something) on his mouth, then you could give him herpes simplex.
