Is every one now informed now about what they can get from a toilet seat ? If so then you write what you CAN get from public toilets .

no i dident get any thing from a toilet im just so tired of people trying to claim they can get stds from toilet seats i just want people to be informed of what they claim to know

It is possible to get pubic lice ("crabs") from a toilet seat. However, this is unlikely as pubic lice actively seek body heat and will quickly scatter in search of a host. But, if you were to use a toilet immediately after another person... Transmission of other common STDs via a toilet seat (which would serve as a fommite...an inanimate vehicle of transmission of disease) is unlikely. HIV, for example, quickly dies outside of the human body and although Hepatitis B can live in dried blood for two weeks, it is unlikely to pass though intact skin (so don't pop those pimples on your butt before you use the public pooper). The average contact with the average toilet seat is not sufficiently intimate for transmission of most STDs. It is conceivable that skin infections, such as staph infections, could be passed this way, but it is unlikely if the skin is intact. What is much more likely is transmission of gastroenteral infections, such as E. coli, staph, and even influenza and SARS. However, good hand washing and avoiding the grossly soiled toilets should decrease the chances of this happening.

As far as public toilet seats are concerned... When I was a child traveling with my parents we had stopped at a Howard Johnsons to eat one summers day back in 64. I remember that you had to pay a dime to get into the toilet stall.(imagine that!) Well one stall was open and I looked inside and needless to say I saw an unwelcoming sight all over the seat and the back wall. Talk about a blow out. Anyway ever since then I relised that useing a cover on the seat was my best bet. I did't know about std's or lice or crabs but this was my conclusion based on that experiencial sighting. To this day I still put layers of tp or sanitary napkins on that toilet seat...mind you a public one and not the one in my home. This is how I keep from getting any kind of "whatever" problems from a toilet seat.

FYI - toilet paper isn't going to protect you from anything on a toilet seat, and its not likely that you would even get crabs/lice from one either.
I work in an STD clinic, and we see very few cases of crabs - maybe 2 a year. If it were that easy to get, we'd see a lot more cases of it.

You can get crabs (pubic lice) from a toilet seat harboring the insects, it's unlikely, but possible.
