I was diagnosed wtih HPV severeal months ago. I have external genital warts. I had tried the Aldara cream for a month (the doctor was kind enough to cover the cost of one month for me since Im a student and dont have enough money to pay for the prescription myself). The cream ran out several weeks ago and I just went to the doctors yesterday and recieved an acid treatment. The site where the acid was applied is grey on the warts now and surrounding them. There is a small area on the inside of the labia that is white. Its a small oval shape. I havent showered yet, as the doctor told me to wait 24 hours until doing so. I was just wondering if the grey and white areas with go away with showering or with time? Also, the doctor noticed that the hpv genital warts have spread to the inside wall of the vagina. She said shes only seen one or two people with this in the past. Has anyone had any situation similar to that? What should I expect to happen next? I have a colposcopy scheduled soon.

The genital warts and hpv have not spread to the cervix. Just to the vaginal walls. The doctor said my cervix looked healthy.

The white spot came after having the acid applied yesterday. So, its not herpes and its not from the Aldara. I was thinking it could be from the acid and my skin reacted wierdly. Has anyone else had that happen?

This is my first treatment with the acid. I have a follow up for more acid in ten days.

What you are experiencing sounds normal, but call your doc on Monday if it hasn't gotten better.

And you WON'T have this virus for life. 90% of people will clear the virus from their bodies within 2 years.

It sounds as if you already had an abnormal pap if you are having a colposcopy, but its important to note that the types of HPV that cause visible warts aren't the types that lead to cervical cell changes. Its also VERY common to be infected with more than one strain at a time.

Good luck!!

Even when you do get rid of them, you can and probably will still spread the virus. You are infected for life, but so is 75% of the population! Get the warts treated, usually frozen off or surgically removed. After that make sure you get your paps done regularly. Its very common and nothing to be too worried about as long as your paps are done. Take care and stay safe!

I'm glad that it hasn't spread to the cervix. The next step would to either freeze them off, burn them off, or to cut them out...if the acid hasn't worked. But go ahead and get this done, because until you get them removed, they'll keep on popping up and you can spread them to others. So hurry up and get it done so you can get rid of this area of your life. Also, HPV is the number 1 cause of cervical cancer so make sure you have a pap smear every year, DO NOT skip a year......ok? Best of luck to you..........

if the small white oval shaped area on the labia is painfull...then it could be herpes. if not it could be from the aldara. your dr. is treating you correctly...she may need to do cryo surgery...which means freeze them....
good luck...by the way, hpv can be spread from sex
