It could merely be stress, but you should have yourself checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. Yes, it is possible that a 19 year-old can suffer a heart attack or stroke and subsequently die from either one. Get to a doctor and explain your symptoms. And whomever tells you that it's impossible that a young person can have a heart attack, DO NOT listen to them. IT IS VERY POSSIBLE and it does happen! Young people seem to think that heart attacks and strokes only happen in the elderly. Not so! Many times, genetic abnormalities of the heart contribute to heart attacks in the young. Get to a doctor pronto!

My cousin died of a heart attack at 15, due to an unknown heart defect. You can have a heart attack at any age, pay attention to your symptoms and see a dr. It could be angina, or something very serious. Angina is a temporary lack of oxygen to the heart muscle. It hurts and feels like a heart attack. It could be symptomatic of mitral valve prolapse, improper closing of a valve or something even more serious. If you eat a lot of fast food, and your cholesterol is high you raise your chances even further of a heart attack. Get checked. I can't stress that enough. Go to your nearest drug store and keep track of your blood pressure for a week so you can report the results.

While it is within the realm of possibility, and you may want to check with your doctor to be sure, it is far more likely that you are simply a hypochondriac. Stop reading medical journals.
PS: One does not have to be fat to have a heart attack. One could be a smoker, have a genetic defect, High blood pressure or even high cholesterol. It can hit anyone regardless of the appearance of health. Kale I, if you are a science teacher, or were told by a science teacher, I can see why this country cannot meet with the world's standards of education!!

I wouldn't say that it's a heart attack, but it's something that you should get checked out.
If a 19 year old had a heart attack, it would be in the medical books. That's how unlikely it would be.
Besides, it would be more like a heart attack symptom if your left arm hurt a lot, not that it went numb.
I wouldn't worry about a heart attack or a stroke.

sorry, mr "science teacher" you DON'T have to be FAT at any age to have a heart attack.
And, "pink" - you really should see your doctor or go to the ER the next time it happens. But you really shouldn't wait - you're young, and have too much ahead of you. Especially if you have a family history of heart trouble - see a doctor SOON.
Try to "de-stress" honey, find some time for yourself and do something you like - see a movie, knit, do a crossword puzzle - especially stressed people need time for them selves.
But most importantly, see a doctor soon.
Hope everything works out all right.

Anyone at any age and at any weight can suffer from a heart attack because heart attacks do occur for many reasons. High blood pressure can be a factor...high cholestrerol..genetics...lots of variables.
What you are describing does describe a warning sign of a heart attack and I suggest that you take it seriously. Please come see us as soon as possible while you may still be healthy and not when you are actually suffering from a heart attack.
Please see your doctor or a nurse like myself and get a checkup. Then please heed our advice for your health. You are young and you should be enjoying life for a very long time.
Please see your doctor or nurse TODAY

You should see your doc as soon as possible. While you're young and fit (good practice for a long life) you may have some sort of heart deformity that is only now showing up. You need to get things checked out and make sure everything is ok, before something bad DOES happen.

You should probably go get it check out. It might be nothing, anxiety maybe, but it could be more. My step son had a heart attack and died at age 21. No warnings, it just happened one day. However, I have had it really bad one time and went to the er. They did an EKG, said everything was okay, gave me an antacid and sent me home.

I gave CPR to a 22 year old cop who was in great shape. He died on the floor in front of us. He had a heart attack just standing there BSing. Because he was on duty the county coroner was required to do an autopsy and he told us the guy had scar tissue all over his heart from dozens of previous attacks. Don't screw around, see a doctor.

You should see a doctor. You should take yoga and learn how to breathe. Heart hurting is normal for a girl your age. But the numbness is not. That's why i think you should go to the doctor.
Breathing is probably the root of the problem. Take yoga and learn how to breathe more. Yes, 10-yr-olds can get heart attacks but it is very rare.
