Hi there, I am a Respiratory Therapist. Throat clearing would NOT be the biggest sign of Asthma. Asthma would have signs like shortness of breath on exertion, and audible wheezing.
It sounds more like sinus drainage to me, especially this season. It will cause mucous to slide down your throat (I know, gross) and cause your throat to tickle. The bst thing for that it drinking plenty of water and Sinus medications to help dry out the sinuses.
Good luck.

I have asthma and I used to do that. It might be from mucus in your lungs from nasal drip if you have allergies. Go to your doctor and get tested for asthma, but if you're not sure if you have it, it might not be that bad. Advair(inhaled medcine) works well, ask your doc about that too.

I used to have that habit until I quit smoking. Smoking caused me to have a lot of excess mucus, so my nose was always partially stuffed... and the post-nasal drip down my throat caused me to clear it a lot.
It can also just be a nervous habit.
