A bypass surgery involves taking a vein from one part of the body (usually a leg) and bypassing a blocked portion of a coronary artery. Coronary arteries supply blood to the heart, and blockages to these arteries cause myocardial infarction (better known as a heart attack). A 7-bypass surgery indicates that the patient has seven portions of coronary artery that doctors have identified as fully blocked or dangerously blocked, requiring bypass. Since there are numerous places that coronary arteries can become blocked, it's not uncommon for someone to require multiple bypasses.

Want to avoid this surgery? Two of the best things you can do to reduce your risk are: (1) Make sure you get at least 25g of dietary fiber in your diet every day, and (2) Get a lot of mono- and polyunsaturated fat in your diet. Best sources are nuts, eggs, fish, olive oil, flax or flax seed, or you can do EPA fish oil capsules.

It's a CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) involving 7 coronary vessels. Grafts (pieces of veins-saphenous-from your legs/or arteries-radial-your wrist, or internal mammary-yourchest) are used to bypass(loop around) blockages in pre-determined coronary vessels(usually found during coronary angiography) to re-establish blood flow to heart tissue and muscle to prevent heart death.
