I have herpes, got with my boyfriend of now 4 years, found out I had them before we started having sex., told him, he was very carring, questions and all, I even told him I'd understand if he didn't want to be with me, he chosed to stay, and yes, he know too has the herpes virus, so yes, if someone is in love with you, they will truly accept you for who you are, as well as what you have., not to mention, when I found out I had herpes, I also had chlamydia. He was aware of that too. He really changed my way of living.

I have genital herpes. I've had them for 5 years now. My fiance (boyfriend at the time) didn't have herpes. I told him before we got sexually involved and he accepted it. Of course he had questions and wanted to know as much as he could about it. After I explained it too him and answered his questions though, he accepted the fact I had it, and that possibly someday he would get it too.
About 2 months later he did get the virus from me. We are currently engaged, not because of the STD, but because we love each other, regardless of the STD. So in my case, and I'm glad he did this, my fiance stuck around and didn't leave me when I told him what I had.
Everyone is different. A lot of people say they would leave, but actually EVERY guy I have dated has never left me because I have herpes. I even dated a guy that had genital herpes (I didn't know this right when I met him, but after a month or so). It's really not as uncommon as people think. Also, genital herpes is not deadly. Even though there is no cure, it is totally treatable.
Sorry I had to add one more thing...the guy below me is wrong. We are not ALL born with herpes. Some infants can be born with herpes if their mother has. Children can also get herpes if someone kisses them who has herpes (cold sores). Not everyone has cold sores though. It is a large number, I think I've read like 80% of people, but not everyone. Even though my fiance I have genital herpes we DO NOT have cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1). Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) and genital herpes (herpes simplex virus 2) are NOT the same thing. Yes, they are both herpes, but they are different strains of the virus.

I feel bad to say this but I think that I wouldn't be able to have a serious relationship with someone that had herpes, if I found out at the beginning of the relationship. They would have to be super special and I'd have to know them awhile before I found out. Then if I REALLY liked them alot I believe that I could consider it. Reason being that my life would also be affected. If we ended up getting married I would have to have special treatment when delivering a child and would also have to deal with the outbreaks because inevitably I would contract the disease.

I don't see why not. It's okay to have a good time without sex. Remember that all of us have herpes since birth. The same blisters that come around your mouth or in your buccal area are the same that people with std's have in their privates. It just depends on where you get them. Science just labled it a different name but it is one and the same.

it's pretty honest of them to let you know they had an std up front (if they are the one who told you) but you have to decide whether you are willing to take that risk, you have to consider long term effects, like possibly marriage, children......... Maybe discussing risks with a doctor might help you decide. I don't think I could do it, but then I'm not in your situation either.

NO. Have them get treatment and a clean bill of health. Then consider a date. Otherwise. NEVER.

There is no cure for genital Herpes simplex. Once infected, It will stay for the rest of your life.
You should decide the case according to your conscience.
