In my opinion no. I smoked for 18 years and quit four years ago. In my experience the best way to quit is cold turkey. If you use miracle drugs or the patch you will only prolong your agony. It took me four days, (four very bad days mind you) but once I got through those four I have never had a craving since. Your mind is way more powerful than nicorette or ziban or whatever. You have to want to quit to make it happen.

I am a smoker and I have read all the little warnings and the health articles about the effects of smoking, and I think I speak for all smokers when I say no of it helps! A smoker for many years just isn't going to put down his ciggs because he or she sees someone on an oxygen tank, or a blacken lung. It is up to the individual himself. It is all in the mind, when you tell your mind that this is it I am finished, and throw your pack in the trash, then that's it. My husband's father was a smoker for 27 years and just one day over at my house he threw his pack away with his lighter and never pick another one up. I have asked him many times how did he do it, thinking I could quit like him, he said he just was tired of smoking it didn't satisfy him anymore.

So the point I am trying to make is that any smoker for one year or a hundred years can stop smoking at any given moment if the time is right and the are serious about it.

I quit 8 years ago using Zyban - I had tried 3-4 times before - quit 2 times, but went back. The news reports about the drug you are talking about say it is about as effective as the patch - with Zyban or this drug, you aren't delivering any nicotine into your system, and this newer drug is reported to block the addiction, which is a major advancement! The physical & mental addiction of nicotine are said to be more powerful than cocaine. Personally, I'd try anything (I did try hypnosis - didn't stop) - I took Zyban for a little over a month & have not smoked sine. Give it a shot - good luck! :-)

When I quit, they didn't have all that stuff. It took several tries, but finally, I just quit. Don't give up - just get rid of the cigarettes, sweat it out, you can do it.
