when it comes to COPD patients, if i were you i'd be careful when it comes to exercise and i STRONGLY advise that you see your doctor first. there are COPD patients that were advised not to exercise because of their condition.
while i appreciate your intention to live a more healthier lifestyle, when it comes to COPD -- it's just that we need extra precautions when it comes to physical activities. because of your condition, if you start exercising and push yourself too hard -- you may risk heart failure which is not good.
usually doctors send COPD patients to pulmonary rehab .don't worry, you don't stay there overnight -- you come in like 3-4 times a week to exercise. when in school, i had a rotation when i had to be in the rehab for 5 weeks and each patient's activities differ than the others. they were to walk on the treadmill -- with their own speed and time as ordered by the doctor. one patient was at the end stages -- she went on the treadmill at the speed of 0.5 mph for 18 minutes. that's as far as she can go. well of course, we don't push them to. but since going to the rehab -- that's actually an improvement. when she started, she can only walk for 8 minutes.
just to remind you, changing the lifestyle or incorporating an exercise regimen does NOT cure the disease, but this will help you work around your daily activities and increase tolerance -- which is a BIG step. so i suggest you see your doctor and find out what you can do

Wouldn't like to advise of any exercises, but would suggest you try and see a Physio - Pulmonary Rehab, in some cases may be beneficial to COPD patients.

swimming is a great exercise for this. Are you seeing a Pulmonary Specialist or taking Theophylline or Albuterol to treat your condition?
