i am referring to the questions that are asked here. people are asking questions because they are seeking the truth. don't give them opinions, give them the answers. do your research before answering the questions.

sadly, there are more books sold that are written about the bible and what people interpret it to mean, rather than people actually buying the bible. but just because you own a copy of the bible doesn't necessarily mean that you read it or understand it.
And to those who say that scripture would do no good, I firmly believe that "the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12 - New International Version)

The bible is a book of mythology and is an expression of opinions by unknown people.

Why would anyone prefer the opinions of fiction writers with an agenda over those of real people?

The truth leads people away from God belief.

Atheism, the only logical choice.

BTW, the most sure way a person can get me to ignore his comments is to include verses from the bible. Unless it is one or two lines directly related to the topic, I do not bother reading anything else the person has to say, scripture or otherwise.

The same is true for those who cut & paste from the Koran.

If I wanted to read the whole thing, I know how to use google. And have the King James bible bookmarked for handy reference.

Well you could easily ask yourself that same question since there is scripture to back up using scripture when dealing with non belivers.

But to answer your question, the main reason I don't do it is because I find it annoying. Most ppl that quote scripture don't even understand what there quoting, they just memorized a few versus. And the key to true knowledge isn't memorizing the answers, its being able to give the answers in your own words. For me, some of the most convincing things that have helped me in my walk with christ is actual testimonies from other ppl. Its one thing to hear about something that happend hundreds of years ago, its another to hear omething relevant that happend to somebody you actualy know.

Your quoting doesn't always help. It actually turns people off and it makes you look like you are showing off your memory of the bible. Plus who knows if you are quoting and it is correct. The only ones who know if you are telling the truth is the ones who quote also. Why make a long story even longer with the quotes anyway. Your quoting is such a turn off.

I am a Christian and claim biblical knowledge, however I rarely quote scrpiture word for word...mainly because i find it difficult to remember. I usually preface it by saying "it goes something like..." or "I'm not sure of the exact wording". I would hate to quote scripture wrongly!
If you want to meet christians who do quote the bible a lot, go to a yahoo christian chat room.

I have been brought up as a Catholic so my knowledge is from what I was taught and it wasn't from the scriptures. We were told everything and didn't have to use the bible as a reference. Nuns were the messengers and I don't need the bible to confirm what I already believe or what was taught. Everyone and every religion does it differently, that doesn't mean that we are wrong.

I've read the whole thing several times in several versions. I got a BA in Bible. I still continue to read, explore, ponder its contents.

I have found quoters to be annoying and pretentious.

Quoting "scripture" is NOT a true indication that the quoter understands it and/or that he/she is even representing the matter justly.

Quoting "scripture" is NOT an indication that the quoter understands much of anything in the real world.

Ok smart one, most of what Christ said was not quoted from the Torah. Some times quotes mean nothing to some one who does not read the Bible.

Because most of the people here who claim to have biblical knowledge, don't really have any.

They are like the audience that Jesus was speaking to here...

John 8:42-47 “. . .Jesus said to them: “If God were your Father, you would love me, for from God I came forth and am here. Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth. Why is it you do not know what I am speaking? Because you cannot listen to my word. You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of [the lie]. Because I, on the other hand, tell the truth, you do not believe me. Who of you convicts me of sin? If I speak truth, why is it you do not believe me? He that is from God listens to the sayings of God. This is why you do not listen, because you are not from God.”

He was directing those words to the priests and religious leaders of his day.
