You cannot simply make a DVD with Nero. Nero only just burn to a DVD format with the correct prepared DVD files. Nero is NOT a DVD compiler.

Follow steps described as below.

SCENARIO 1:
Take for example, you have an original DVD and you want to make a backup copy (legally entitled to). The original DVD would need to be reduced from its 8GB format to 4.7GB to fit on a DVD-R or + Disk. This can be achieved with FREEWARE DVDShrink.

All associated DVD files _.bup, .vob, .ifo, etc will be created within a Video_TS folder. Now you have all the necessary files for a DVD disk!

To burn is now as simple as running Nero.exe (don't use Smartstart). Click on the recorder tab to select your DVDRam drive. Under "What would you like to burn?" _ select DVD-Video Files.

Double_Click the Video_TS folder to open. Next click_Add. Navigate back to where DVDShrink has created all the DVD files. Right_Click to select all files Click_Add. Click_Finished.

Click_Next. Click_Burn. ALL DONE!!!

SCENARIO 2:
OK so you have your own amateur camcorder video footage that you would like to burn to a DVD disk. Capture the DV footage to your PC via a TV/Video Capture Card. Convert to DVD ready format which is MPEG2 using TMPGenc Plus or other convertors. TMPGenc Plus has ready to use DVD format settings.

Next use TMPGenc DVD Author to compile your footage. You must be aware that DVD format must meet specific image size and audio types. Example: DVD video size must be 720 x 576 running from 3000 to 8000 bitrate. Audio must be set at 48000Hz from 112 to 384kbits/sec. Any lower than 48000Hz your DVD player will spit the dummy!

Other programs you can use include:
PowerDirector for compilation. PowerDirector has a range of transition effects and subtitlings - plus you can add sound effects and background music. Output is MPEG2 files. Complete process by compiling with TMPGenc DVD Author. Output will then be DVD ready files. Follow burn procedures as described in scenario 1.

PowerProducer, which is sometimes bundled FREE with PowerDVD or with a new DVD burner. Output is DVD ready files, it will also burn straight to DVD disk.

WinAVIConvertor for converting AVI files to other formats, but also convert other formats to DVD MPEG2 formats.
