Pineapples can grow in most tropical climates - including Hawaii and parts of Africa, they don't grow on trees, they grow on a low, spiky plant, upside down from the middle.

I don't know if these people are trying to be funny or really don't know.
I used to live in Hawaii. I guarantee you they grow in the ground. They have pineapple fields all over the place. I have never seen a pineapple tree!!
As for who discovered pineapples, I have no idea. I know they've been in Hawaii forever though.
You can actually cut off the top of a pineapple plant and plant it. Eventually it will grow a pineapple if you take care of it. I think it takes about 3 years for a pineapple plant to actually produce pineapples.

The Pinneaple is the only fruit that is born of a plant of the Bromeliae family.
The Bromeliae are crawling plants that do not have trunk and therefore they grow near to the ground.
The Bromeliae are plants that grow in very warm and humid climates
