dentists(who all seem to have nice cars and houses and lots of reception staff stood yapping)say they cant afford to do nhs work.why dont we use market forces and stop going for 12 months(except kiddies and emergencies)and see how long it takes for them to suddenly be able to afford to treat us poor nhs types when the private treatment mony stops rolling in!

My Dentist has left the NHS leaving me unable to afford dental treatment. I am am in the situation where I have to wait until something goes wrong and I have to go. Companies like Denplan and HSA will only let you start their schemes if you have good teeth at the start so if you don't you have to pay full amount to get them fixed.
Yes we should boycot all dentist for a year or maybe longer.

Do you live in the US? If you do then you do not pay for dental insurance unless you choose. You don't have to , in fact if you don't have any decay history and never need much work done, then I wouldn't have dental insurance because you will probably pay more for the insurance than the services you will require in a years time. Now that is the minority of people.
I worked for a dentist that drove a KIA, I wont even drive that cheap of a vehicle!
For all the money and devotion they had to put out to become a dentist, I think they deserve the money they make. Sometimes I wonder how some of them come out with a profit. Dentistry is expensive. Supplies are expensive! I did the ordering in offices before and I always amazed me how much items were! So it isn't the dentists that are ripping you off, it comes before them.
Now with dental insurances having PPOs and HMOs, dentists cant make a profit while maintaining their ethics with these insurances.
I don't know the answer, but I will tell you that if everyone boycotts dentistry for a year, they will have a lot more work to do when you all come back, and it will cost even more. I see it all the time, if you are seen regularly you will have less problems than if you decide to go once in awhile.
Ounce of prevention is worth a pound in cure!

you seem to forget dentists also pay taxes proportionate to their earnings, they invested a huge amount of their life and money to be the best they are. People who appreciate that skill will pay for good service whether you will go or not.

GPs earn a lot of money much more than dentists with less work, Lawyers earn more money, accountants earn more money i ahvent heard you mentioning them,

you have money for smoking 15-20 cigarettes a day but dont have money to go to the dentist once a year? just dont smoke for a week and you will have enough money for going and also for a meal out

is that envy speaking or plain stupidity and ignorance? all the best for not going to the dentist for an year and then ending up in hospital

that's a great idea. then at the end of that year there will be tons more work to do. don't you like the idea of having someone special to take care of your teeth. like someone who has been at the top of their class their entire life, has a steady hand with an artful touch, and is somewhat nice to talk to. those people are rare. supply and demand buddy. supply and demand! you europeans don't uderstand the concept or benfits of true capitalism!

go to a bargain dentist in mexico or india and let me know how it goes. seriously, i want you to email me and tell me about your experience.
