There is only one grape variety that makes wine that gives the taste reminiscent of grapes and that is Muscat.

While it is sometimes made as a dry wine, most Muscat wines are sweet. You will often find it sold by glass in restaurants as a dessert wine so you could try a glass. But Muscat wines don't tend to be very expensive if you want a bottle

If you're talking about a flavor of grapes alone, I can't think of any wines foreign or domestic, except for some "grape wine" I came across at an Iowa winery which tasted like grape juice mixed with rubbing alcohol. There always seems to be a hint of some other flavor.

However, there are two truly wonderful Sauvignon Blancs from the Marlborough region of New Zealand (I know its not Aussie, but it's still closer than Napa!). Monkey Bay and Nobilo. Both are excellent dry whites, great with food, or just for quaffing on a hot summer day.

i don't know about the aussie market, but try pino gris, if it's available. it's lighter in flavor and not terribly strong.
