Yeah, Firefox is lighter than IE. It is lighter in size and in CPU usage. And somken, the size of the program file's Internet Explorer is misleading. Since most of IE's file is not located on the Program Files' entry, most of them is located in the WINDOWS folder, scattered in it, mixed with other Windows files.
Note: Be a bit careful with usage, Explorer might refers to Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer.

The simple answer is yes. But the issue is more complex than that. IE 6 is bigger and heavier than Firefox, has more security issues, is slower and is much older than Firefox. But some webpages were built for IE and won't load well in any other browser.
Firefox has a smaller size, a smaller footprint, and is very user friendly.
My advice would be to download Firefox and use it a while. See which one you like better, it or IE 6. Get Firefox from Mozilla at --
http://www.mozilla.com/
You may also want to download and try IE 7, beta 3. It has been much improved thanks to the competition from Firefox. Get it from Microsoft at --

Definetely, The current version of firefox is 1.5..0.4 and the total size is 4.88 MB and the current version of internet explorer is 6.0.2800.1106 and total setup size is 11.0 MB. Other than this, IE is now outdated and more vulnarable to current security risks while Mozilla Firefox is a full featured, new age and most secure than IE. So i will recommend to go for it, b,coz both are free then small size to download then why should you take chance. You can download it from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/central/

Yes, if you mean by its fuctions. Its more user-friendly, and highly recommended. Explorer is getting old, but keep it for backups. There are some sites that doesn't support Firefox (which they should).
