"Years" is a mistranslation into the Aramaic from what had to be much earlier source material. The first historic people used a lunar calendar. So the age of each patriarch in chapters 1 through 10 of Genesis can be understood as "months of manhood", where manhood begins at bar mitzvah, around the 13th year.

Adam's age =
(936 months / 12 months per year) + 13 years = 91 years.

Actually it's more accurate to calculate by *lunations*, or the number of new moons. After 12 lunations there is 7/19ths lunation left over until the completion of the solar year. Here is the modified calculation:

Adam's age =
(936 lunations / (12 + (7/19) lunations per year)) + 13 = 88.67 years.

The patriarchs after the world-flood beginning in Genesis 11 have their age written in biannual seasons of manhood, that is 2 units per year after the age of 13.

For instance in Genesis 11:29 "When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became father of Terah."

Nahor's age at fatherhood =
(29 seasons / 2 seasons per year) + 13 = 27.5 years.

These mistranslated ages continue only until Genesis 35:28 "Issac lived a hundred and eighty years. "

Issac's age =
(180 seasons / 2 seasons per year) + 13 = 103 years.

People often misunderstand Genesis 6:3 "..man.. for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." This is really a warning to Noah that he will only have 120 months, or 10 years to save the souls of his fellow men before God ends their lives in the world-flood. The warning aspect of this passage is much clearer if you compare it to the Book of Jasher and to Theogony by Hesiod (the part about the three Hektoncheires battling for 10 years).

I wish more people could see the truth of this.

P.S.: People did not live shorter lives in the past, that's a statistical trap. Researchers average the ages of people who die at the completion of a long life with soldiers who die as teenagers and infants who die at birth. But people who are not killed and avoid diseases have always through history lived decades past 50. For instance, all of my ancestors for 10 generations have completed 82 years or more before death.

the written word was not written in English to begin with so it isn't certain the translations are correct. -assuming they are right but our way of determining the days in a single year have been changed would make more sense. Picture if you will the words written before you. could be understood that each year could be 1000 days long + 30 years or 100 days less than the age of 31 years. by today's standards would = 84.66 years old. To know how time was back when life was new, how would be know without being there. Yes less to take a life back then but take in mind God made Adam. was a man to begin with.
If you notice the written word was written in such a manner that things can be taken different ways pending who reads it - maybe by perfect design as to say each man understands differently on purpose. all men will stand before God will have heard of God before the day of judgment. yet all men learn at different levels would it not make sense that you will only be judged by the level in which you understand and not by the sin you have taken a different way.

What sort of bogus science are people talking about. 30% more Oxygen would be like 27% of the total air and would pretty much burn the cells fast and I think people would probably age sooner not later.

As for 900+ years, this just like the "6" days in which the earth was supposedly created.

the people under the royal crown of King James were given a great gift and one thing was the translation of the old testament; the English language has been a true and everpresent open type of technology. Just look at the prophecies of Nostradamas and see how closed it is or rather can be.

HEY...

Things were different back then, before the flood (Noah's Ark) the earth had about 30% more oxygen and because of this... People grew older, taller and all kinds of things like that...

Do yourself a favour and get some dvd's or video's from Dr Kent Hovind - he's a creationist and he explains quite a few things... Or you could go to one of the following website's: www.ChristianAnswers.net or www.AbsoluteTruth.net - they have some very good explanations and answers in there!!!

THE BASIC REASON—SIN

By their rebellion against God, Adam and Eve cut themselves off from a good relationship with him. They did not possess an indestructible, immortal life. The Bible says that by means of his power God ‘keeps the sun, moon and stars standing forever, to time indefinite.’ (Psalm 148:3-6) So, too, with the first human pair. They were dependent upon God for continued life.

By refusing to submit to God’s law, Adam and Eve deprived themselves of his sustaining power. Moreover, alienated from God, they were without his divine direction and guidance. In time, then, the sin that had alienated Adam and Eve from God brought about their death.

However, following their transgression against God they still had in themselves tremendous potential for life. This is evident from the historical record, which shows that Adam lived for 930 years. (Genesis 5:5) Yet, fulfilled upon Adam was the warning: “In the day you eat from [the tree of the knowledge of good and bad] you will positively die,” for God sentenced Adam to death on that day.—Genesis 2:17.

Through his disobedience, Adam, as the progenitor of the human family, brought death, not only to himself, but also to his unborn offspring. That is why the Bible says: “Through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.”—Romans 5:12.

Having forfeited perfection, Adam could not pass it on to his offspring. From the start his children were born with weaknesses. The outworkings of sin in his body made it impossible for him to father offspring without limitations and weaknesses. This harmonizes with the Bible’s statement at Job 14:4: “Who can produce someone clean out of someone unclean? There is not one.” Hence, the aging and death of humans today can be traced initially to the sin inherited from Adam. As his offspring, they are receiving the wages that sin pays—death.—Romans 6:23.

The atmosphere before Noah's flood was much richer in oxygen, hence allowing extended lifespans. The oldest person mentioned in the Bible was named Methuselah, who died just prior to the flood.

Sarah and Abraham were a million/2 sister and brother, same father. James changed into Jesus' earthly brother (step-brother) because Jesus changed into "begotten" of God. that they had a similar earthly mom.

this is possible, because one of our days is like a thousand years to YAHWEH. judging from the bible, and the way its worded, YAHWEH, was talking about the time limit of one of his days. YAHWEH said, " but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." adam lived, as you said, 930 years. that is well within the time limit of one YAHWEH'S days. therefore adam died IN the day. the word IN, being the operative word. take note, everytime YAHWEH'S people trangressed, he shortend their life span. this is why presant day peoples lives are limited to at most, 120 years.

No wars, no guns, no cars, no AIDS or Hep B, no stress, nothing of the crap we have which we mostly made for ourselves. Adam and all of those guys were closer to God and less greedy, less self-centered than we made ourselves to be.
